This is what is wrong with Halo 4: (link removed)
Community watch this and tell me if you don’t agree. I like my games to be a challenge. I want my games to be difficult and require practice. Halo has always had a skill gap and that is what the 1-50 ranking system was there for; it helped match people up based on their skill level.
Guys, help keep this thread alive so that there might be a chance someone at 343 sees this video.
I don’t see what is wrong with a game having a good story. But meh, a video like that really is a joke at the same time, judging by the Zero Punctuation style.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a good story, its when the story gets in the way of making a good… game
I hate this guy with a passion. Everyone’s just hopping on the bandwagon and agreeing this guy.
He doesn’t want story in his games? Definitely. Because a game with no story would be so great. Notice how he’s talking all about 90’s games. Those games had no story because the concept of videogames was new. Some games are made for the story. Get with the program. Grow up. Things change, suck it up.
And I like how he mentions that games are just created over and over again with no “fun” value, and then talks about mario. Because if there’s one game that changes it’s story and core mechanics each year, it’s mario. I haven’t been through all those puzzles before. THEY’RE TOTALLY NEW!
This guy is an idiot. He knows how stupid some people are out there, and how eager they are to be “cool” and get with “the popular crowd” which is gaming now, apparently. He, and all his followers, are acting like they’ve been around for decades playing video games.
You know the annoying fanboys who say, “Remember the good old times of insert whatever the hell you’re talking about here?” That’s exactly what this guy is.
Haha oh that was well made and articulated beautifully. A little misguided but funny none the less.
You see the trouble with catering to the Uber-Gamers is you alienate the other 99%. So game developers aren’t noobs as this video puts it but they simply cater for 99% while trying to deliver 50-90% what the 1% ask for.
It’s a question of economics combined with simple supply and demand moreover than game developers dumbing down the industry or gameplay itself.
There is a reason MLG population is never going to be as large as the Halo population, Uber-Gamers are the minority.

Even Donkey Kong had a backstory, look it up. Pacman too, the developers actually put more in than you see. It’s the same design principles throughout the ages.
Games today simply have more investment and resources then ever before so you see all areas of this now e.g. lighting, story, lore, characters, merchandise, textures, animation etc.
Mario has reinvented itself so many times and broken new ground while making countries-worth-of-cash. I’d never pick that example the way he did.
Who’d a thunk it. A four year old video knows what’s wrong with a game thats released six months from now? Seriously though the video, terrible points, well made.
Games evolved. Deal with it.

90% Of “gamers” can’t beat the Water Temple in OoT without the strategy guide. Still the best game ever.

Interesting… That Halo 2 the first xbl online game had a higher population and longer staying power than any other Xbox original game, isn’t it? In fact it competed with Xbox 360 games in popularity
Also its totally uber to note that Halo 3 had a population of over 300,000 for 2 years. While I believe it’s safe to say that Halo Reach’s population dropped under 100,000 towards the end of year number 1.
Hmmm is there a trend here?
Maybe you don’t realize that a game that caters to a steady, hardcore, competitive fan base first, and then the casual community second will see a longer life span and more popularity. Trying to mass market a -Yoink- game will only make you a quick buck. Buddy.
Dont know how this applies to halo 4, if you watched the conan vid, they obviously brought back strafing and less aim assist, wouldnt this bring back the skill gap instead?
To reiterate what I said earlier, I’m not saying I don’t want a story… What I’m saying is I want the gameplay to be the first and single most important thing, then the story. Graphics arent what makes a game good

Just to be clear…personally I’m all for making things more competitive than Reach. I already see 343i doing that to the extent I’m happy with but keeping things fresh, unique and fun too.
To just have frags, standard movement/strafe and a BR has been done all through Halo 2/3 and I’m really not interested in that same game for the next 10 years. There will be a playlist/setting for that, enough said.
Halo 2 and 3 were so popular due to the timing in the industry. There’s already an excellent thread about this, do a search. Essentially Halo 2 pioneered console multiplayer, no wonder it was so popular even in the face of it’s super bounces, button glitches, cheaters, modders etc. It was the right time for such a game to be that popular.
I agree Reach was too much change towards fun and lacking some competitive parts. I still enjoy the game and I’m not overly concerned when I lose 1 or 2 out of 10 kills to a less “skilled” player due to game mechanics. I never minded in Mario Kart when I was slowed down for being in first place or the last guy always got the blue shell to catch up.
Formula one, golf and so many other sports and games have exactly the same level playing field mechanics. The trick is casual golf uses handicaps to allow players to play together and be competitive while having fun. Once that moves to pro the handicap and training wheels are taken off and it’s up to the player skills to be competitive.
I’m honestly exhausted at how overlooked playlists and setting are by this community. Just look at the examples above and you’ll see Halo 4 will have this same variety and range of gameplay so all players can enjoy the game for fun and competition.
