Deaf Compatibility with Halo 4?

Okay, I wanted to adress some things that concerned me. Has anyone played the Halo: CE Anniversary? Then you would notice that the subtitles, unlike the original version, were in Anniversary. I just realized that subtitles aren’t always in the Halo games. For example, Halo 3 had subtitles only in the cut scene, but not during the gameplay. Now, the deaf people may not know why Cortana is popping up on the screen, or why the green rumbling is showing up the visor. Obviously, deaf people would know that something’s wrong, but they’re left out in the conversation.

I’m hoping that what Halo: CEA did (it had subtitles in cut scenes and also in gameplay) will carry on to Halo 4. Why am I talking about this? I am learning signlanguage, and I have conversed with the Deaf people. And they don’t get a whole lot of benefits in the terms of the hearing. So communication is the issue when it comes to sounds with the deaf. Don’t worry, the deaf people have clever ways to get around, but getting around video games are the hardest. Just letting you guys know my concern.

Another thing, I heard that Promethean Vision will let the player know that he/she is using the Armor Ability through a sound? I checked it out, sure enough it was there, but I didn’t see anything noticeable by with eye. This would prove a disadvantage. Hmm a little tricky there… what’s even more tricky is that changing something that’s already a part of the game may mess up the balance.

Added idea:

There’s the radar which is visual, so if someone is using the Promethean Vision, the radar will point a direction to the PV user and act as a notification. It seems that it would work well with both kinds of people without being an annoying distraction. Sometimes players like myself forget to look at the radar, so it won’t be that annoying.

Well, that’s it. I hope this was thought ahead of me. Just letting you guys be aware of these things.

They can’t just change everything to cater to deaf people, they are disadvantaged in real life I’m sure they will get over a few minor problems in a video games. Obviously somethings such as subtitles are necessary but visual cues for a lot of things would become very annoying I have to say.

I agree.

And for the PV, it activates a red light on your visor.

This is what I was thinking when the Promethean Vision is frequently used. It’s something to think about though. That’s why I said it’s the tricky part. I know the deaf people are minority, but that doesn’t mean they should be left out. The point of entertainment is to appeal to everyone much as you can.

Wait a minute… I realized something. There’s the radar which is visual, so if someone is using the Promethean Vision, the radar will point a direction to the PV user and act as a notification. Agreed. I play with the volume mute when I need deep concentration. As a result, I never get to hear the fun dialogue.

Visual immersion has determined my tastes for a long time and I’d hate to be playing without seeing subtitles.

Besides, isn’t it possible to make in-game subtitles optional?

the whole screen turning bright blue and orange isn’t a big enough hint?

Uhh what? That’s when you’re using it. I meant tipping off when you’re using the Promethean Vision to notify a deaf person. That won’t work if you tip it off by a sound.

Well, yes. It’s possible to make it optional, but in the past Halo games, none of them had subtitles during gameplay.

i think an option to turn the in game-play subtitles on and off would be great

I have no idea why Bungie never realized that. Almost every single game but Halo has in-game subtitles. 343i already put them in H:CEA so I wouldn’t worry about Halo 4.
