DeadZones

I have started to notice a drift on my LEFT thumbstick. Does the deadzone setting also apply to the LEFT thumbstick, or just the right? Is it possible to get a deadzone for the left thumbstick as well??

There’s settings for each stick

Actually there isn’t, there’s only the outer and inner deadzone settings for the right stick. Unless you’ve got an elite controller for which you can use the accessories app to tune everything.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought there was an Xbox update last year that allowed more control over settings such as this for regular controllers.

There was indeed, it let’s you remap buttons on a regular controller but that’s it. Still nowhere near the Elite customization.

Gotcha, good to know. Thought it might have been more in-depth but obviously not.

Mine just started this about 3 weeks ago. Left thumb stick as well. Never had this happen before and Ive had controllers even XB1 for much longer than the controller I have now thats starting to drift. It’s only 18months old.

I went ahead and bought a new one last week. But I just dont get why it started happening. I barely put any hours on it maybe, and over estimating but only 400hrs 2hrs a week at most!

Hope you can find a solution for yours.

Should have written this in an earlier post. I know of two main reasons why this happens. One is potentially the more obvious one where dirt and whatever else gets sucked into the inner workings of your controller and starts to jam stuff up. It’s possible to clean it and YouTube has some good recommendations. The other more serious issue is the housing on which the sticks rotate getting damaged. That’s not necessarily the fault of the user as Xbox One sticks are manufactured with plastic as opposed to 360 sticks which were made with metal. Of course, users should treat their controllers with care but these require a bit more care as even a small shock could cause damage. One sticks are still durable though but not as hardy as 360 sticks, if that makes sense.

i have read about going into the xbox menu settings and this may let you change the responsiveness for each stick through the accessories app…but this still doesn’t mean being able to set a deadzone for it… I really dont want to have to buy another controller. I have also heard about the youtube videos for taking apart and cleaning the controller, but i tried something like that with the original xbox S controller i had and it didnt go well lol; i’m hesitant to try it again.

This is unsettling to know that the XB1 controllers cost more, a lot more compared to 360 controllers and use what can only be assumed now as cheap plastic compared to the more durable metal used before.

Since I already purchased a new cb1 controller now that I know dirt is the likely suspect here, might as well try and clean it.

I appreciate the info!
