DeadTriton's Trueskill 1-60 Hybrid Ranking System

Okay straight to the point. The 1-50 Ranking system can be brought back with some modifications in my opinion.

To clarify I am using the 1-60 instead of 1-50 for extra durability in the ranking system.

The names are just examples

1-10 = Novice - The top 90% of all players

10-20 = Casual - The top 70% of all players

20-30 = Intermediate - The top 50% of all players

30-40 = Above Average - The top 30% of all players

40-50 = Expert - The top 10% of all players

50-60 = Master - The top 5% of all players

Players would rank up based on W/L (Win/Loss) and Trueskill would determine what percentage of players they would vs based on what group they are in (for example intermediate - 50%-70% or Above Average - 30%-50%) This system would randomly select players in that range.

If players were in a higher percentage of players for a specific rank that respectfully gets deducted to the highest possible percentage for the rank, like for example in Novice you would 90% on the dot or for Casual 70% on the dot and if your circumstances are the opposite then it would be the opposite. This is however entirely temporary and is just for proper system identification.


Now for W/L in games it should be partially based off rating (from Reach) to ensure that the players who did well in the games even if they didn’t win to not be punished like in Halo 3’s W/L Ranking system.

1st place would equal an automatic 2 points to your Rank and nothing more.

2nd place would have nothing happen unless they achieve a rating above 1600, then they get 1 point towards their Rank.

3rd place would lose a point/derank unless they achieve a rating above 1500 and if they achieve a rating above 1600 they rank up 1 point.

4th place would lose a point/derank unless they achieve a rating above 1500 and they cannot get 1 point even if they rate above 1600.

(The same thing would happen for any lower ranked player as 4th)

Last place has the same circumstances at 4th place.


So that’s my quickly constructed Hybrid Ranking System that I thought of, I know something like this has probably already been suggested but that’s what I think they should do if they bring back the 1-60 and if something smarter has been suggested then I’m all ears and Halo 4’s Ranking system shall be fun again.

Wins and Losses no percentages, imo

Think about it you would need a lot of people playing in that particular playlist to actually match you respectfully. Think of Arena and how that failed hard. Percentages would make matchmaking 10 times slower and harder to find opponents once you reach 50. The game would force you to play lower ranked opponents once it just spent 10 minutes trying to match you in your percentages range. Then it would take you longer to rank up because your facing lower ranked opponents. And 1-60 seems a bit much, just to 50 and make it based on wins and losses. Simple enough…Best team wins.

I know I’m just trying to put Trueskill into the original ranking system to allow proper placement. Personally I had nothing against the 1-50 system as Starcraft’s ranking system is based entirely off W/L and I don’t see any problem with that.

I’m going to bed guys (1:30am), elaborate if you will.
