So, I for one may have to readjust my attitude toward Halo 5’s aiming mechanics a bit after finally figuring out what a “dead zone” is. I’ve watched several different Halo youtubers, and they all seemed to have the same dead zone, 7% inner, 12% outer. For the love of God, I have no clue what either “inner” or “outer” means as I play mainly casual to a cas-competitive level, so I’m more concerned with inverted Y axis, and low aiming sensitivity.
I used 7%/12% I/O setting for a while and noticed, even with an X1 Elite controller, my aiming felt forced and awkward, I’d hang my cross hair sometimes as if there was a lagged response between my controller and input, even using a wired connection. But low and behold, having gotten to the point of pure frustration, I went zero on everything.
Meaning I went from 7/12% I/O, 4 aim sensitivity / 5 acceleration to basically 0/0%, 1.5 aim sensitivity (1.5 Vertical, 1 Horizontal) and 2 aim acceleration (OK, not technically 0, but you get my point).
WOW. I jumped exponentially from poor aiming to deadly accurate; this feels like what the Elite controller was made for- kind of aiming. I’d suggest for anyone whose complained or fought with the reticle to consider dropping your filters extremely low and then begin to raise them until you feel your comfort level.
This one minor change to my controller layout has had a major effect on my gaming experience, Halo 5 has gone from "better-chance-shooting-myself" to "this feels-normal-again." Biggest drawback about this game was aiming for me, now that that’s under control, I think I can start having fun again.
