Day/Night Cycles for Multiplayer Maps?

Does anyone know if it’s been talked about that the multiplayer maps will have day/night cycles and/or inclement weather? I know the Campaign will have day and night, but it’d be really cool to see multiplayer maps change cycles together so we could see maps in both day and night lighting with not too much effect on the actual performance of the map, like without affecting visibility too much. Thoughts?

I’d honestly love that! One of my favorite elements in multiplayer maps is some kind of physical change. Like lowering the bridge on Last Resort, or opening the gate on High Ground, or even extending the top bridge on Longshore. Makes the maps feel super dynamic. Weather effects could also be really cool!

We know the sniper rifle scope glints when you’re being aimed at. What if say that happened for most of the game when the weather is sunny but it can cloud over and rain which eliminates the glint from the sun. I guess that would add an RNG element to the game which isn’t great in a competitive shooter. I guess even if it was purely for aesthetics it would be neat

I’ve seen other games do this and like it, adds a little variety.

OP asked a good question.
I can imagine there being day and night maps like in h3ODST. Maybe in custom games there can be an option that you can have the weather cycled or turned on and have it rain or cycle through day and night.

Day/Night cycle would be a very good addition tbh, adds more diversity to the map and that should be encouraged

For sure, and it’s already part of Campaign so it definetly wouldn’t be impossible

I think that due to the system having already been added such an addition would not be difficult to add, I love games that add atmospheric environments, CE did a great job with it and that is one of (just about everyone’s) favorites. So bring on the depressing rain during the night.

Imagine Elysium City (Skyline map) with rain… DAMN

Yeah that would be awesome, or imagine a 2nd version of the New Mombasa map modeled after Halo 3 ODST with tight streets and a quiet rainfall during the night in a detached, lonely setting.

That would be cool.

Even if it’s not day and night, at least day and dusk.

would hope so, should be a forge feature!

This would be incredible especially in Forge although visibility should be slider. I’ve tried to get reduced visibility working in Halo 5 and just couldn’t. Getting reduced visibility, and day/ night conditions where lights still function normally is nigh impossible. This would be a major improvement Halo Infinite could make over Halo 5.

Would be awesome. We had this in Crysis in 2007. Since then I can’t remember another game that featured a day/night cycle in multiplayer.

Usually night maps are avoided in MP games because of the difficulty balancing the visibility of enemies. When done well, they’re super cool though. The BF series has had a few great night maps over the course of all its games, and a few that were pretty meh.

The new outline system probably solves a good chunk of the issues with that though. So I think it would be cool to get some night maps, or maps with some crazy weather. Just maybe not 2042 crazy .

Would love it if only for social modes or custom games, since I could see this being shot down “for competitive play reasons”. Imagine though if you could have a Custom Game where… Player stats were determined by the time of day. A Zombies game where in the Night the zombies are stronger or something?

There are already nighttime maps being used in competitive i’m sure, plus Halo Infinite’s outline system would make dark areas kinda similar to ODST, if it would even be that dark.
And that would be cool. Givin me Deadrising vibes

If they did that right it could be a really big feature.

Well generally 343’s excuse for such matters has been that players need to start on equal footing, but if everybody has lower visibility than everybody is still starting on equal footing, its just noticeably less convenient. So its possible that they may accept it.

I would love to see this. Especially the weather change as you play through the map. (ie. A winter map that starts off lightly snowing, then turns into a blizzard)
