After the Campaign Overview a few weeks ago and IGN review, we’ve got some comparisons of the Day/Night cycle. The night is somewhat underwhelming. I wasn’t expecting full-on ODST darkness, but what we got looked like T&R with Anniversary graphics. Aka, not dark at all.
I’m assuming this is a gameplay thing and not 343 not wanting to make it dark (they have some pretty dark interiors), and I believe this is because H:I doesn’t have a flashlight/night vision. This is likely due to the limited button on a controller.
So my fix for this would be to tie the flashlight to the equipment menu. It’s not like we’ll need to switch to it quickly since it’s a non-combat item and flashlights (even in CE and ODST) were optional.
Overall, not a big deal at all. Still looks good. Just wondering why it wasn’t darker.

And no increment weather system is also a missed opportunity.

Honestly, I’d like the flashlight option to return, it just adds an extra element of immersion, especially when it comes from the lights built into the helmet when the weapon you’re holding doesn’t have one. Additionally, I’d like alert carry, or lowering your weapon, to return as well with the added bonus of being able to use it in campaign. It may be pointless but it’s always nice to give players the option. Besides when I’m not harassing the banished and just want to hang around with marines on the map. I’m pretty sure they’d be a lot happier if I could lower my gun and not point it at their faces when they speak to me.

Yeah I hope rain, snow, and other biomes get added (desert, swamp, jungle, maybe even underwater). 343’s insane if they think players are gonna be okay just walking through trees for 10 years.

They probably do think that. Most triple A games these days do exactly that.

Lol I hope not. First semi-open world Halo game that takes place on a forerunner installation and they aren’t taking advantage of the artificial environments?

They confirmed there is no weather system when exploring the open areas. This game also has no player collision and has no simulated wind for ingame flora. Example grass, tress and leaves don’t sway from breeze/wind. Look at all the multiplayer maps. Everything is ‘static’.
This game engine they are using seems very limited.

And no hammer physics. There’s probably some Inside Infinite post from a year ago stating that physics will be add “post-launch” XD
Supposedly no collision isn’t a done deal and 343 is just trying something out for a few months. So there’s hope to get it back.

I believe the game engine is unfinished or has very basic functionality for physics and the like.
Because even small things like fruit physics, corpse physics, shooting light placements and TV props and no reaction. All those small details add up to the fact that there’s underlying issues. Hell shooting flora produces no reaction either.

343’s really going all out on the whole “Matchmaking is just war games simulations” angle huh?

I was thinking same, was fighting in base, so maybe it’s darker in more secluded spots that doesn’t have so many lights,
As long as it adds to the overall immersion of using cover of darkness I’m ok with what I saw.

Straight up. It’s not bad. Was just hoping for more. But any darker and 343 will have to hire a saxophone player…
I would have also liked to see a darker night than what was shown. Perhaps we will see it.
I’m overall curious how the cycle even works, and how fast.
Maybe we’re placed in certain timeframes based on ring fragment or something and the time cycles slightly from that. So maybe we’ll be set in a dusk/night environment. Idk, for some reason I can’t see Halo going the Far Cry route and just having a full blown cycle. I know it’s been mentioned by 343 and what not, I just don’t know if it’ll be like that.
But they could also just have an auto on feature. Vehicles in H2 did it. When they entered a dark area, lights turned on.
Something that I doubt will happen, but would be absolutely SICK is, if you recall the campaign overview, the part where Chief skewers then 'jacks a Banshee, you can see the skybox UNDER the shattered ring. Imagine God rays coming out of the GROUND!

Could also have something to do with the lack of ray tracing support at launch. Pretty sure all the lighting is pre-baked so they’re having set timeframes because of instances above.
I wish there was rain, fog, snow.

Wind and fog are supposed to be there at launch, and was talk of adding rain / snow storms post launch (no confirmed timeline)
With rain / snow storms it would make sense if no snow biome, no doubt we’ll find out over Infinites lifespan

Where was this confirmed at (link)? I’d like to read it/watch it myself. But that’s awesome if that’s the plan.

343 mentioned about it before, don’t have time right now to go rummage through everything
