Day 91 since launch & I'm still lagging in games, desyncing, getting disconnected. FYI 343!

I just want to make it clear I am not complaining about these issues 343 so please don’t ban me. I know you all are very ban heavy as of late, but I’m just trying to be a good person and bring these issues to your attention.

Anyway, I really want to play ranked games but how do I? I got to Platinum 6 and almost to where I was about to go into the Diamond league, and the lag go so bad I got kicked out of the game. I dropped and entire level for that.

Then it happened again and I dropped another entire level and I was banned.

Flash forward several weeks since I refused to deal with that anymore, I just tried to play some Fiesta slayer right now and the absolute same thing happened again.

I know its not me…its you. I’ve played FPS’ on my PC for over 20 years and never had one game ever treat me the way you treat me ever.

Can you fix your game? Can you make these things go away? I really would appreciate it especially since no one else is having these problems in their games.

343…don’t ban me…just acknowledge your problems and fix them. Thanks!

Don’t worry, you’ve said nothing in your post that’ll get this locked or get you banned. Your frustrations are entirely justified. I hope they fix these issues soon, too.

The game has felt worse for me performance wise recently than it ever has before.

I have had the same issue on Xbox series X. Not once since I got the console have I been disconnected the way I have been for the last 24 hours on halo infinite. All game modes. Sometimes I load in, sometimes I don’t. Almost always disconnected before end of match. Only 1 time in probably 3 dozen attempts it made it the whole way through a match (we got crushed, hooray).

Attempted all forms of restarts and modifications to no avail. It is 100% server-side. “You have been disconnected from the game server” every time it’s the same error. I don’t know if 343 pushed a patch or hotfix overnight, but 2 days ago it was working fine and I played for hours. The issues almost perfectly coincided with the Tenrai-Fiesta event. (Possible cause??) Now I can’t even enjoy the game on a casual level.

Not to mention the auto-ban system for leavers is incredibly faulty… why am I getting occasionally banned for disconnecting from a fiesta match in unranked play?

343, if you’re reading this, Please address this issue as quickly as possible. Thanks

Desync has been absolutely horrendous this evening. Absolutely unacceptable for a AAA title to have standards this low in 2022.

I’ve been monitoring my server connections and ping over the last week for each game, and it has been approx 85% EU servers but the desync is clearly not ping related…whether that’s due to players outside of EU connecting to EU servers is anyones guess.

I also played 10 games tonight and 4 of those were on Washington DC servers at approx 85ms ping. Those games are literally unplayable with the latency and desync. My KD is dropping like a brick as it’s literally impossible to win any 1v1. Totally unplayable and not worth wasting my time playing if this is what Halo Infinite has become.

Absolutely pathetic and unacceptable.

I feel your pain Konspiracy. I’ve been playing FPS’ on PC since the early 2000s when Half-Life 2 came out, and in all the years I’ve played I’ve never ever had the problems with games that I am having with Halo Infinite.

It is really sad because if the game worked it is all I would play. I would play it every night when I got home from work until the minute I went to bed. I just love Halo, but 343 has pushed me away from Halo.

Right now I’m playing my back catalog and I’m enjoying it, but if come season 2 this -Yoink!- is not fixed I am done with Halo multiplayer for good.

I hate saying that but it is true come season 2 this is not resolved…I’m out 343.

3/2/2022 @ 8:35pm CST update.

So, I came back to Halo Infinite tonight hearing that a big juicy update had come out and that BTB was working and all was well.

Sadly, as has been the case since almost day one, I got into the game, was doing great having a good time thinking all was well.

Then, all of the sudden like has happened game in and game out it started to lag, and then get got worse, and then I’m getting skipped across the map and BOOOOM…kicked out of the game and I’m now all of the sudden online.

It’s not me 343…its you. How you can declare this patched…I have no clue.

So, see you in season 2. I gave you chance after chance after chance and you F’d me for the last time.

Halo is literally the only game that ban you for quitting a social match, it needs to stop. tho thankfully it’s not as bad as MCC and H5 which has the most toxic quit ban system ever implemented. I have never ever had any other game put me in a “time out” corner for 3 days because I was having 1 bad day. Even R6s the most competitive game ever made won’t ban you unless you quit out of a ranked match and even then, its only for 1 hour not 2-3 days

it’s really sad that their big update was a 1 gig patch that did next to nothing

I’m going to go with it did nothing since the same results that I got post-patch are the same as pre-patch.

I finally decided after 5 matches of the hands down worst gameplay I’ve ever played since I started gaming 20 years ago tonight to drop this turd in the punch bowl game gonna go play something else because they are progressively making this game worse and worse with every “patch/hotfix/update” that they do. Here’s to the lack of headaches hope they make it better though but they have lost so many staff members and can’t hire on hardly anyone so we will see.

Great comment! Laughed out loud after reading it. It’s funny because sadly it is true!

I agree but I will continue to remind people desync isn’t always as straight cut as poor net code. That certainly is one of the areas causing lag but their are a couple of major non-network related sources that can cause lag as well. The 50k ft view is those sources boil down to whether the hardware can keep up with the render workload and what type of pre-processing your monitor/tv is performing before drawing the image onto the screen. Also note, rendering includes drawing UI elements. The same UI elements which have presented “technical limitations”. With such a descriptive articulation I’m left wondering to what degree performance impacts are bundled into those limitations.

I’m not saying Infinite has stellar net code or defending the performance of their title. I’m saying the scope of their troubleshooting is broader than I think most people would initially posit. Bundle that together with a poor UI implementation on the backend and there’s some non-trivial amount of work required to pin down the origin of the problem. Consequently depending on the nature of the origin it could require small tweaks or an overhaul to improve the performance issues.

I’ve been playing FPS’ competitively since Half-Life 2 on PC in 2004, and I’ve never ever had the issues I’m experiencing in Infinite on PC in any of the hundred-plus shooters I’ve played in the last 18 years.

To me your comment is an excuse in the form of Stockholm syndrome.

@Captain_Cromy FYI, they are aware of it. There was a blog post about it.

Problem is that they don’t know how to fix it. The patch update added telemetry to figure it out but no word about it since.

Thats because the standard for game quality on release has decayed over the past 2 decades. Have you seen the blowback Battlefield and Cyberpunk got?

I’ve been programming for 7 years, interested in game engines for the past year, and have read sections of “Game Engine Architecture” and “Multiplayer Networked Games” - my attempt to convey the depth of the issues 343 find themselves needing to fix to non-technical individuals is not stockholm syndrome. I’m simply sharing what I’ve learned with respect to why the issue of lag isn’t straight forward from a development perspective.

Unfortunately this is the impression were left with because - as you point out in not so many words - they can’t pick up a keyboard and consistently and clearly communicate what they’re working on. Instead we get seemingly monthly updates which seem to use many words to say little.

That Stinks…

I would think if they had a fix for it or at least knew what was causing it, they’d come out and address it. Their actions or non-actions speak for themselves really. It’s fine to admit you don’t know, but when you come out and say “it’s lag bro” and “every game has lag” it’s just childish. This is the only game I play that has desync like this.
