Them introducing a new Spartan character in Halo 5 got me thinking, it would be super awesome if they also introduced a new character that had Sargent Johnson’s voice actor.
What I’d prefer the most is if they introduced, I don’t know, Sargent Johnson’s son, who happens to sound and look exactly like him, but upon hearing his work in Dota 2 (after not finding out it was him for an embarrassing amount of time), he’s honestly a really talented guy, and he could do any number of other characters. But I would really just love to see him back in a major role doing the Sargent Johnson voice again, and not just as a Firefight(?) or Elite voice (FYI, he also voiced various Elites throughout CE-Reach. He is pretty amazing). It would be really cool because, if nothing else, it would be a little shout-out to the old days.
Side note: I already covered this with a post in another thread, so if it looked familiar, that’s why. It didn’t actually have a whole lot to do with the topic, so I figured that I should just go ahead and make this new one instead.
Also, this didn’t warrant a thread by itself, but I still want to say it:
- Every numbered Halo game getting remastered on one disk? Check. (Can’t help but be a little disappointed there won’t be ODST on it, though, if for nothing else but Tricia Helfer having an opportunity to come back looking non-weird in video-game-form.)
- Arbiter being brought back? Check.
- Multiplayer beta for Halo 5? Check.
- Armor abilities still being a thing, though? Uuuurrrgh. Check.
Little bit of faith in 343 restored, anyway? Check.
I would love if Johnson had a son, also played by David Scully.

Didn’t you hear? Armor Abilties are gone. Spartan Abilities are more akin to dual-wielding or hi-jacking. Basic features that all plays have access to.
David Scully returning is very unlikely, considering he voiced one of the most iconic characters in the series who is now dead. Having him as a son would be difficult to explain canonically. And if a son did exist, where was he this entire time? AAs are gone, Spartan Abilities is a new thing, but i fear that it would be no more a positive thing than AAs anyway.
On the subject of re-casting actors, i would like to see Michael Wincott making a return, no matter what role he plays. I was really pissed when they did not get him back for Prophet of Truth in Halo 2.

I hope not. New characters need new voice actors. They just need to be as good as the old ones.
As much as I understand where you’re coming from, I must disagree. It would feel cheap to simply replace Johnson with somebody who looks and sounds like him. There’s no need to have a Johnson 2.0, I would very much prefer to have new, interesting characters that I grow to love in different ways.

As OP mentioned, he voiced a lot of elites. Didn’t he voice Half-jaw?
Like I said, he’s a talented guy, and he could do any number of other characters. I’d just like to have him back in the Halo series in some way, and yeah, I would really love to hear him doing the Johnson voice again, but I know that that’s an unrealistic wish. But still, what’s wrong with bringing the old characters back in, and how would it cheapen anything if they’re not stopping anybody from bringing in new characters? What’s wrong with having some new characters in addition to the best of the old ones?
Oh yeah, and I was originally going to do a two-line rant about putting Arbiter in it with his original voice actor, but, then, you know, I actually saw what I needed to see. Just, PLEASE, make him pivotal, and not just some kind of guide or something, if he’s not going to be a playable character complete with a cloak. (We’ll keep it between us that I’m just happy to hear his magnificent voice once again.)
It’s also been mentioned that the Spirit of Fire could be turning up about now, and tying those characters back in, including the Spartan II’s, would be fantastic. Since it’s apparent that Halo Wars probably isn’t going to be continued, there isn’t any reason not to include those characters in the mainline Halo series now.
And I know I’ve said all of this stuff about wanting more of the classic characters, especially because it seemed Chief and Cortana were the only two from the original games that they were including (and I mean, duh, they’re the two main characters, you kind of have to keep them), but I do still want them to introduce new ones & keep the ones that they’ve created themselves so far. Even Sarah Palmer, if they just make her a little more likable, and definitely more of Lasky. There’s tons of franchises out there, even video games, with loads & loads of characters. Why not Halo?
ALSO, HAVING BUCK (WITH NATHAN FILLION VOICING HIM)(OR HAVING ANY OF HIS ODST SQUAD) WOULD BE AWESOME.

Eh, after looking a little more into it, I’m a little relieved, but still a bit wary about the whole thing. There’s another thread already discussing it, but it could either be a nice new addition as a player trait, or really bad. Sprint was a player trait, and it sucked. I mean, imagine if everybody started with Armor Lock.
I’m just saying, it could be good, or it could be really bad.
I also wonder if they’ll bring back equipment, if there really isn’t going to be AAs.
