So what do you guys think? I like how they mention those characters.
Someone do me a timeline please!

The only that confused me a bit was this was 4 hours after the 30th and we have them leaving just before the 30th in-game o-o Only odd thing to me, assuming that entire report was done and up during that time when they’d assuredly be off planet and out system.
Granted I haven’t read the Fall of Reach in awhile so I may be wrong with how it all aligns.
Edit: The bit about the guys wife having a condo in New Alexandria was kinda sad to me too :c Was like an “Oh, that’s horrible to write that” knowing what happened
But it adds to what can happen.
Sounds to me that the canon is now pretty much fixed. Although I’m not entirely sure if dates etc etc all line up.
This really tacky. This is the best 343 has to offer. Those techies sound like idiots and the UNSC be extension.
Well I like how character from the Flood was mentioned.
Character from the Books “The Fall of Reach”, and “The Flood”.
Lieutenant Commander Gail Purdy was a Engineering officer. Survived to the end of Halo The Flood. But died in the explosion of the Truth and Reconciliation
Major Antonio Silva was a ODST. Survived to the end of Halo The Flood. But died in the explosion of Truth and Reconciliation.
Crewman Abiad was part of the commanding crew on the pilar of autumn. Made in on Halo. Shot in the face by a covie Elite
Ensign William Lovell was part of the commanding crew on the pillar of autumn. Made it on Halo. Killed by a covie Elite.
Now thats a little backstory of the characters for you guys.
I’m delighted that 343 are fixing the canon damaged in Reach’s wake, as well as answering specific questions the fans are asking, like “how could the Autumn stay up in atmosphere”? It shows that they really do listen.
And I loved the novel references

The messages were captured by ONI at 4:14 hours on August 30, 2552. This is about half an hour before the Fleet of Particular Justice (the major fleet that would final crush Reach) shows up.
In the book, the Autumn would participate in the brief battle, letting Red team and Blue team go on their mission, recover the Chief and Linda, then leave. In Halo Reach, sometime during the battle (either before they rescue the Chief or after), the Autumn goes planet-side to recover the Cortana fragment. Due to the different times used in the game and the books (Book uses the military calendar, game used Reach’s local time), it’s hard to tell the exact series of events.
I so love the data drops. The only thing we need now is a definitive timeline of events, listing both times on the military calendar and Reach local time.
Well I assume that minutes will stay the same making the 52 mins that the Halo Reach Level Pillar of Autumn start on a fixed part of time.
It can’t be before 0414 as the POA still has it’s booster on. Thanks Data Drop 6
And it can’t be after 0647 as the POA leave about that time.
Meaning the pillar of Autumn gets the full Cortana by either 0453 or 0553. But I can be wrong.
But if I’m right on Reach it becomes the 30 August quicker than it does on Earth.
It’s starting to bug me that 343 is trying to paint ONI as these mustache twirling villains/Illuminati group.
There is no fixing of the canon, there is only the opening of eyes and minds. That you could not believe until now because there was no evidence does not mean the canon was broke in the first place.
> It’s starting to bug me that 343 is trying to paint ONI as these mustache twirling villains/Illuminati group.
You mean they’re the good guys? Hmmm, yes the human civil war makes that an unlikely probability.
They weren’t at first. What they did with the Spartan-IIs and IIIs is debatable, but remember Haverson from First Strike? He wasn’t a complete villain. This added with Glasslands…come on.
So you’re forging 25 years of villiany for 6 months of heroism??
I do not so easily forget. Nor did I ever feel the love of ONI. Though I love ONI for its evilness.

Like I said, what they did with the S-IIs and S-IIIs was debatable. However, they did more than that, they were the ones busy working on Forerunner and Covenant technology after all.
> It’s starting to bug me that 343 is trying to paint ONI as these mustache twirling villains/Illuminati group.
Not ONI, Margaret Parangosky, and if you’ve read any media the involved her, she is willing to do anything. In addition, each section of ONI operates differently, and not every branch knows what the other does.
Section 3 is top secret projects, such as the Spartan programs, and handles black ops.
Section 2 is propaganda.
Section 1 worked closely with the UNSC, usually dealing with code breaking and gathering intel.
Section 0 isn’t entirely know, though they do at least handle internal affairs.
Now, not every section of ONI is always going to know what other sections are doing (this is especially true with section 0). The only person who does know are the top brass, which include Parangosky. She is very secretive, and again, does whatever it takes.
ONI has never been painted in a bright light. All the fiction shows that the average UNSC soldier doesn’t trust anyone from ONI or anything related to ONI. So, even if some of the officers are nice, those are individuals that do not represent the whole of ONI.
I agree ONI is like a secret society that will do anything even lose their humanity for the common good. The end justifies the means
Anyone else notice the retcon explaining why 343 is using the M45 Shotgun model in Anniversary instead of the M90. At least they offered some explanation, instead of leaving us in the dark, which I’m thankful for. I would’ve liked to see the M90 updated, though.

Yeah I noticed that, it’s nice that they gave us some explanation but it still seems like they just couldn’t be bothered making the M90. Still, I’m not fussed by it, the game will be fun so I don’t care what model of shotgun we’re using.
well like it or hate it at least they did something to fix the mess Bungie left. That said it was pretty good overall the changes to make it all fit together. The battle of Reach has more dimensions to it now.

Its crap that they are being lazy and just going, “Oh hey, yeah we’re too lazy to model a new weapon so we’re gonna use this picture to cahnge canon. we dont care about one weapon IN A GAME WE WERE NOT GOING TO CHANGE.” M90 =/= M45, that is a change in game.

I’m pretty sure they made different models for most of the weapons. It wasn’t laziness at all.
The 45E is the exactly the same as the M90, albeit different skin. Deal with it.
