I’d like to know what the reasoning is for making the Magnum more of a sidearm.
So far we know, or at least think we know, that it’s a 6-shot kill with bloom.
If 343 just made it on-par with other weapons, we’d have:
- The beloved classic back. (More-or-less)
- A more consistent pool of weapons (Loadout, Ordnance, Power. Rather than Sidearm, Loadout, Ordnance, Power.)
- No need for the “Firepower” perk.
Seriously, if it was on-par, there wouldn’t be the need for many artifical tweaks to the game. (This is also how I feel about the whole Spec/Tac. Package thing).
Discuss.
You know what? I prefer the fact that it’s now a side-arm.
The reason for making it more of a sidearm is that it is a pistol, and pistols are supposed to be sidearms. If the pistol was put on par with the other weapons, you’d need to put the plasma pistol on par, and any other sidearms. With the fast rate of fire of the plasma pistol, this wouldn’t work well. There’s about a thousand different other reasons as well. I’m not saying that I don’t feel you, I love Anniversary Slayer, but making the pistol as powerful as a rifle just isn’t something that should be done in my opinion.

Why’s that?
What about if it was on-par with, say, the BR and played differently (like shorter range, etc.)?

Probably because it makes sense…I mean, now that you can use a pistol while carrying the flag…
If it was up to parr with the BR etc what would the point be in having Br’s etc?

I get that they’re trying to convey a philosophy, but it just seems like purposely putting a weapon in a bracket that makes it weaker so that you can break that limitation is an artifical way of creating depth and micromanagement.

The BR is Medium Range, the DMR is long range and the AR is short range.
Their DPS divided by their range should be the same essentially.
That’s how you add weapons in the balance.
I get it for the flag, and that’s fine, but there are other ways of doing this.

Look-the pistol has always changed in EVERY Halo game.
I think this pistol looks quite useful-although I don’t think it’s intended to be a key weapon. Just like a last resort weapon.
Give the Magnum a 12-round magazine, and we have a viable close-range weapon.
All of this “it’s a sidearm” nonsense is just a candy-coated term for useless. At this point in time, there is 0 reason to use the Magnum over the Plasma Pistol.

The Magnum does nothing that a Carbine can’t. It’s worthless.
Fact: The magnum is a pistol, and pistols are sidearms. Also, I think it was a 5 shot headshot in Reach.

It was fine in Reach: a close-range DMR. Why does the Magnum being a sidearm mean it has to be useless? It makes no sense.

Yeah, this is what I’m thinking too. Hopefully they’ll tweak it in some way to make it worthwhile.
And the Magnum in Reach was fine in BETA IMO. The final version had way too much bloom to go toe-to-toe with anything.
It’s good. Most likely was weakened since you can carry it with a flag, but it should have a slightly larger clip, maybe 10-12 rounds?
EDIT: I think I’m seeing a pattern.
CE: Powerful Pistol, useless AR compared to it.
Halo 2: Pathetic Pistol, no AR. SMG was pathetic unless duel wielded.
Halo 3: Strong AR. Useless Pistol.
Halo Reach: Weak AR. Strong Pistol.
Halo 4: Strong AR. Weak Pistol.
Only one that breaks the pattern is Halo 2, since it didn’t have the AR and instead had an SMG that was weak unless duel wielded.

They should have nerfed the bloom and ROF instead of just the latter. Reach’s Pistol was a bit too powerful since it had no ROF cap, meaning it would shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, like the Plasma Pistol.

Magnum can land a headshot. Plasma pistol can’t.
I would rather it and the Plasma Pistol be primaries for the reason that the number of sidearms is way too small, and because having them as useless sidearms is not favorable.
When I’m introducing a friend to Halo multiplayer and tell them “oh don’t use that assault rifle, use the pistol, it’s better” they kind of look at me weird.
Halo 4 pistol reminds of the Shadowrun pistol maybe its the reticule
