Das Hydra

I knew you could lock on with the Hydra and shoot straight up in the air and essentially mortar people, but I didn’t know you could do this from the side as well. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Hail Hydra!

Pretty newbie if you ask me.

Not really, most of the maps are closed and have cover, so it was kind of a good match with Regret. Besides, it takes two direct hits to kill someone and it has very little splash damage.

It is/should be a power weapon after all
Or do you say the RL or Fuel Rod takes skill to use?

Well I guess all power weapons are pretty newbie, cause I’ve seen hundreds of power weapon kills that took less effort than that Hydra kill.

Lol seriously. Splaser could even be argued that it’s easier.

Anyone remember when they put the Fuel Rod Cannon in Halo Reach’s multiplayer. That thing was a monster I don’t think the Hydra could be “newbier” than that.

I actually don’t recall that, I really only played living dead, swat, and invasion on Reach Matchmaking but I mainly played custom games on Forge World with friends most of the time. What I do remember is the Incineration Canon (I think that’s what its called) from Halo 4 being fairly OP, however I loved the design and concept of it, and hope it returns in H5:G.

They require aiming and leading your shots. The Hydra, on the other hand: lock on target. Aim high. Shoot. Wait. Bam! You don’t even face your opponent and risk getting shot at.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it a map-specific power weapon? It was only on Regret because it can only be fully functional in such maps. Don’t expect it to be Truth or other “small” maps.

BS. The rocket launcher has immense splash damage; you barely need to aim. Just spray and pray with the fuel rod. You actually need to be aware of your surroundings with the Hydra.

Does these weapons work as a heat-seeking missiles that track their target down? I don’t believe so.

The Hydra is legitimately bad at targeting. If anything, it needed a buff. The lock-on isn’t perfect, and it is in no way a guaranteed kill. It takes two dead-on hits to kill, and that by itself is a task.

It’s funny because the Rocket Launcher is still way easier to use, and I don’t even wan’t to remind myself of the Fuel Rod on Solace. How many complaints were there again, that the Hydra doesn’t feel like a power weapon at all and many wouldn’t even pick it up? There’s even a mention in the blog post to buff it.
I often don’t even face my opponent with other weapons too, what is that supposed to mean?

My biggest issue is that it should have enough lock on range, a long distance. Otherwise it might be useless in many situations.

Even though the Fuel Rod is easy to use, you still can outgun the user with some skill. Keep in mind that you must also have your eyes on your opponent. Also, the Fuel Rod and RL are mostly effective at close range and evading them is easy at long ranges, as the projectiles move slowly.

What I mean by “facing your opponent” is having them in your line of sight.

It kinda functions like the Brute shot, tbh, which worked good without the need for a lock-on.

I can’t determine how hard it is to get the kill -as I haven’t tried the lock-on method during the BETA- and the only video I saw so far is where Quinn shows us how to use it.

That logic is like saying would you rather have a nuke or a lock on missile when trying to destroy a city. The nuke is more effective but the missile is less effort but does significantly less damage and requires a hit in a critical spot aka a direct hit with the hydra.

The Fuel Rod was even worse in Halo 4, as in BTB it was a fairly common option for Ordinance, and sometimes you could even get it in 4v4’s and FFA, along with the Rocket Launcher and Incineration Cannon.
