Damage Types predictions / wild speculation

I thought it would be fun to hear people’s thoughts on how the new damage types system will manifest, and what properties each type might have…

From gameplay footage so far and extrapolating a bit I can think of a few potential extra types and their possible effects (I’m just letting my imagination go wild here, with zero consideration for balance :joy:):

  • Kinetic (medium shield dmg, fast health dmg) - Plasma (fast shield damage, medium health dmg)

  • Fire (e.g. brute fire bomb, flamethrower) This could be less effective against shields but do lots of health damage (remember the flamethrower in CE and 3
    It could also have area control effects where coating an area in fire would make it dangerous for enemies to travel through
    Possibly have a secondary effect of obscuring player vision
    Very effective against Flood

  • Electricity (Electro grenade from the short trailer, some other stuff) This could be an effective shield drain but not very effective against health
    Secondary effect of movement restriction (slow down or paralyse someone, shut down vehicles like charged plasma pistol)
    Very effective against prometheans

  • Hardlight (Avg shield & health dmg) No idea what traits this will have … intriguing one to consider.
    Maybe this damage type will have more hitscan weapons than other types?

There’s bound to be more, and I’m certain some of these ideas would be game-breaking and not fit very well in the balance, but I’m just throwing them out there, let’s hear all your maddest ideas.

It always irked me that I never got to use or see the fire grenades in Halo 3 matchmaking(I didn’t get the game or 360 until Christmas 2007). I would love to see the interesting encounters that fire bombing could create, especially in objective for defense!

Didn’t they hint at fusion coils being part of a damage category in the post?

Fall damage might also actually be a thing as a separate group. I’ve always found it a bit weird how energy shielding prevented physical damage to the Spartan in the suit with regards to this damage type. I know armour can be locked and such, but it feels counterintuitive for me.

Organic sources - wildlife, and possibly even Flood could fall under this category.

As for how each group would interact with health and shields, no clue here, just spewing possibilities here.
