I rather enjoyed the concept of Daily and Weekly Challenges; aside from the repeats and the measly 1000 cR challenges it made me want to log in to Reach each week. It’s a nice system, but seemed a little lackluster in it’s presentation and quantity. For Halo 4, I suggest a return of the feature, but with some tweeks to boot.
First of, with each game mode (Campaign, Multiplayer, Firefight, [Flood Survival Gametype Pl0x?]) there are 4 corresponding challenges with a bonus “Overall” tab in the Daily section (these can be earned through any gametype, such as getting 100 kills with a specific weapon and there will be only 1 per day). Assuming there will be no 4th game mode, that’s a total of 13 daily challenges for each day which are further separated by three challenge difficulty tiers; Casual, Intermediate, and Advanced. 343 can decide how to split the challenges into these tiers, but my recommendations are seven Casuals, five Intermediates, and a single Advance Daily Challenge. Earning all of the Daily Challenges will reward you with a bonus amount of XP/cR (depending on how the ranking system works and in what quantity).
Weekly Challenges are a tier of their own, providing one for each major game mode. These would be similar to Weekly Challenges currently in Reach, but hopefully more challenging then some of the ones we had in the past. As with earning all the Daily challenges, there is a bonus reward that is larger then the Daily reward should you earn all three before the week is over. Also, should you earn all the Weekly Challenges before the week is done, you will earn double the bonus XP/cR from getting all Daily Challenges bonus the following days.
A new addition to the Challenge system would be the Community Challenge, which would be prescribed by 343 each month. These challenges would be on par with things such as the VidMaster achievements that Bungie used in Halo 3/ODST, such as finish the final mission a certain way. These challenges would be tasks requested by the community, and might spawn a fourm page for possible Challenges. The rewards could range from XP/cR, simple armor attachments, or just a pretty sticker on your Service Record.
I hope you like the concept I present, and am willing to take questions and constructive criticisms. I understand that roughly 95 total challenges a week seems daunting compared to the 22 we get in Reach, but as I mention before a community fourm discussing and creating ideas for challenges may help the challenge-making process for 343. Thanks for reading.
