Cutting the cord: Halo Without Bungie
Here is a snippet from the article:
> The first thing that was immediately clear to Ross was how differently the two studios worked. In Bungie’s case, the team presided over development of the Halo games but left the fiction and consumer products side of the business to another branch within Microsoft, which Ross says led to misunderstandings between Bungie and the Microsoft over the future of the franchise. Her solution was to bring everything under one roof. As a result, 343 now looks after the entire Halo franchise including software, consumer products, toys, apparel, and fiction.
I never knew Bungie left the fiction and products up to MS. I find that rather interesting and feel like it explains a bit about why the fiction and games never really tied up together under Bungie.
That could be the main reason behind Bungie’s policy.

I guess that’s part of why we never got blue team or any other Spartans in the first trilogy. Might also explain why we got Noble team and Reach over say a game about blue team, which I would have preferred actually.
I hate bungie. After halo 2 they got full of themselfs and thought they could put what ever they wanted in halo and it would be cool because there bungie and they can do no wrong. Look at there vid docs for h3 and reach, there full of themselfs. reach and odst where trash.
Hm never knew that, you learn something new everyday. Well I think all of the Halo games served a good purpose of telling a story. Halo Reach may not had been the best multiplayer experience, but it did have a decent story. I just wish Noble Six wasn’t so random and was a static character that Bungie could’ve made.
Nice link, that is a really interesting point/perspective. One of which like many others, had never occurred to me. In looking back, I was aware of that difference, but really overlooked the impact that a division like that could have on continuity.
This explains why Halo: Reach raped my lore brain.

I thought ODST was excellent, just not worth 60 dollars. Reach was worth a full 60 but it had a much weaker story IMO.

Bungie’s employees have always been full of themselves. You’ve gotta understand their origins and culture - they started as just a handful of college kids, some coding and some art, who “wanted to make cool sh** in their basement”. It was the same with Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. They’ve always been cocky. It wasn’t a progression. They’ve always set out to put things into games that they think would be awesome.

I agree but it was really hard to read your post. It’s like you have no command over your native language.
A Bungie-less Halo is a better Halo IMO. You’re seeing the proof already, i never knew that Bungie let MS handle the fiction. No wonder it always felt like they were holding back, i could never shake that feeling with the lack of connectivity with the books and the games.
Or is it because Bungie didn’t want to sell out that they left MS and their marketing to milk the series with ickle toys?

Wow. You hate them. HATE.
They just created Halo, the world, the gameplay, the Chief, Cortana, the Pistol, the BR… everything. But nope you hate them now.
Respect fail.

I found Halo 3 and it’s expansion, ODST to be quite enjoyable. Reach too but it had a much weaker story and MP.
…No and i am not going to hate on Wars. I actually liked it despite RTS not being my cup of Tea. My least favorite Halo game sure, but not because it’s bad (it’s not) but because i didn’t enjoy it as much.
