I find I have the biggest issue battling Cutter Infantry Ball’s in the mid to late game. I am a Banished main and when I have an army comp of shrouds, engineers, elites, banshees/reavers and a couple hunters I really struggle against his ODST, marines, cyclops, some snipers and nightingales and occasional drop of scorpion/hornets.
I feel bad because I feel like my army comp should handle his just fine but even when infantry upgrades are level 3 I still have a real hard time. It almost feels like pop for pop his infantry ball fully upgraded really craps on any army comp like above.
How have you banished mains combatted this in the mid to late game?
Hunter’s brand wrecks infantry armies, as well as every other leader power like it. If that isn’t working for you, just build wraiths. A massive army of them. They’re tank equivelants, no? If so, cyclopses will have trouble killing them.
Wraith’s and spreading out your Scorch Mortar really helps, in addition since it is mid/late game having Teleport to drop 4-5 Suicide Grunts REALLY helps. They can’t out run them or shoot them down since you’re just dropping them on top of the ball.

Yeah I have considered adding in some wraiths but I guess I am just wary to do so against a good cutter as I don’t know the resource investment would be worth it.
I just have it stuck in my mind that shrouds and a lot of elites should stop the infantry ball BUT I think once ODST reach a critical mass then your in big trouble some maybe Wraiths are needed then.

I still struggle with it. I use a similar army comp most games and Cutter poops on it 8/10 times. 2/10 times I can out maneuver and out leader power it. I generally go hard Banshees and split them up to pressure multiple bases. Or I go Elite Rangers, Shrouds, Wraiths/Marauders mix. Banshees and Blisterbacks are my go to if I’m getting rolled on. Try to pressure bases and hope he splits it up lol

That’s a great strat I’ve never used. I like to put dying breath on suicide grunts and flank with them. Also 2 brutes to stun first then scorch mortar and suicide grunts. Tough to pull off but it works well.

That could work great too!
If it’s just a ball of infantry, I would use any of the leader power’s “beams” to soften them up. Then using a combo of Hunters, Rangers, Banshees, and a few locusts at the back should handle them. For what it’s worth, I usually transition to vehicle based mixes because of how weak infantry tends to be late game. Maybe throw in a few jump brutes to stun them while you go to work or prior to the leader beams.
Shipmaster just do what was said above, teleport them right into a few suicide grunts and that should be that.
With that said, next game I play I am definitely going to try this and see if I’m able to push through (typically, mid to late game I get steam rolled as Cutter, unit for unit).
I appreciate the replies guys. I haven’t utilized teleport and suicide grunts really at all and I need to get in to that habit. I have not used scorch mortar terrible much either but I should since it is designed to handle engagements such engagements against infantry balls.
from playing with cutter a lot recently, but hardly playing banished. I’d say get out some choppers early, early if your going against cutter to keep up with the speed of his marines. I still think banished anti infantry is underrated. Use suicide grunts. Balls of Elite rangers are very good too. They move around well and can shoot better than snipers while moving. Get the high ground too.
I just remembered, late game (LATE GAME) Blisterbacks should help you protect your bases or choke points.
yeah wraiths mixed with infantry and healers and shroud really dominate cutters infantry ball having locust ans marauders in the mix helps with range and stunning units
Grunts + rangers + shrouds + engineers.
You’ll outsupport him. Feel free to add a couple locusts if you need damage to buildings and a couple hunters if he uses ODST batallion.
