Maybe I missed it somewhere but I see people in the flight with different icons by there name and different name plates etc. Is this something we have access to? How have they done it?

Where in the app do you change this?
You need to install the beta version of the Waypoint mobile app. Instructions to do that are on the Halo Insider site. Then from within the app, select Halo Infinite as the current game, then Customize -> Profile.
Note that it seems that many things are unfinished or are not working correctly yet, but you can change your service tag and emblem. You can also change some of your armor stuff, but you can do that in the game as well and it’s easier to see what it actually looks like in the game rather than the mobile app.

Its just released and it seems its not there anymore.
Looks like it’s only available in the beta version and not the new full version. Probably have to wait till the game is released for the feature in the live version of the app.
Ah interesting. I still have the beta version installed which let’s me change the icon and stuff.

I had the old one installed, and I saw it had an update. When I updated it, the new one was installed.
The only options I have under customization is armor and appearance. I’m not finding anything related to service tag etc.
I got the app working. There is post to be an profile option under customization but it isn’t there right now. Probably haft to wait till it goes live this 30th. It shows my armor and my unlocks but no profile option.
What devices are you using IOS or Android? Because the Halo Channel app is not even available on Google Play anymore to download and upgrade then install Halo Waypoint Beta like the attached video:
