Firstly, I’d just like to say that I mean weapon APPEARANCE. I don’t want to see weapons modification or something that could already throw off Halo’s gameplay as much as unbalanced AAs, perks and loadouts did.
What I’m proposing is that we should be able to have weapons skins, much like Halo 4. Except it should go in much greater detail with us being allowed to change the appaerance of weapons. To some extent, we should be able to place our own emblems and colours on weapons.
We could also choose weapons models. For example, you could select from the following:
As I’ve said, these will have NO effect of gameplay, and are merely cosmetic. The graphics of older variants will be upgraded to suit Halo 5.
I thought it would be a good idea in that it promotes further customization of our online avatars and makes it seem much more personal. What’s more we would actually get to see our weapons; we don’t see our armour unless we’re in third person.
There’s so many weapon variants across the Halo games and it would be great to see them return in this way.
While I would like a lot more variation between skins, I feel having several different models would make it more difficult to identify weapons at distance. maybe make the silhouette more consistent between the models?

That’s a fairly good point. I think that might be the only solution.
> Would love to see gun skins, colours, camos etc - even if the skin is only visible on my screen or in lobby.
Ah yeah, I guess that would be another solution to make this suitable for gameplay. Making it only visible from the players perspective and lobby could work so that you don’t end up confusing player’s weapons with other guns. That could have been a serious problem with my idea.
It makes sense because other players see our armour.
We see our own guns.
It’s good to see some customization from the first person dynamic.
To be honest, I don’t know how this would work… at least without loadouts.
You see the on-map pick ups… which players design takes priority or is everyones active on their own HUD… so making the game data that much harder? I understand the presets for starting weapons, like the BR or AR or CC or SR but it just won’t work for vehicles or power weapons and map pick ups…

Not unless it only affected how you see the weapon, and made every instance of said weapon appear how you choose it to appear, which honestly, sounds way too hard to implement.
Why? What harm do they do? There’s absolutely no effect on gameplay whatsoever, and it allows extra personalisation. Even with equal starts, you could select a skin and have it applied in any gametype that starts with that weapon. It works.

I think that’s the best way it could be implemented.
I think it would be alright if you could only personalize the starting weapons. If the gametype is Slayer BRs, then everyone’s BR has a unique skin, (maybe their secondary has one too if they have a secondary weapon) but you would still be able to tell what weapon people are using in that instance. If it has a weird skin, they have the starting weapon, if it doesn’t, they probably picked a weapon off the map or they haven’t unlocked any skins they want to use.
Then you can kill someone and take their skinned weapon and kill them with their own gun, then give them the old 1, 2 with your genitals while whipping them with their own gun as a giant middle finger for thinking they were better than you.
If people are afraid of having loadouts because of a skin option, it’s as easy as having a weapons menu and selecting your preference. It doesn’t have to be a loadout system for skins to be in the game.

I’m indifferent to whether weapon skins are used or not, but I can see where Lagnetic is coming from. I tend to like the uniformity of the appearance of weapons in Halo.
not a fan of skins. they dont enhance/change/make better gameplay in any way and they clutter the menu. id rather them use that development time was used on something that really furthered the gameplay.

That’s like saying why bother letting you customize/color your armor and emblems? It adds nothing to gameplay.
People want more aesthetics to fit their style. Aesthetics are always a plus.

Totally agreed! I wish I saw similar concepts before I posted this. Really, it would be awesome to see old designs of weapons return along with designs that never made it past concept art.

Agreed. If you can customize your Spartans armour, why not customize some of their weapons? If anything I think it could potentially add more given the fact that we’re always looking at our own guns, unlike our armour. Gives some customization to the first-person dynamic.

This is what concerns people? Things that have nothing to do with gameplay, awesome…</mark>
