customization

i know that they already talked about this, but i was wondering, will we be able to do stuff like reach? EX: knee pads, diff shoulders, wrist attachments, utility, helm variants, chest variants, etc

Something more like Reach and Halo 4 and less like Halo 5 would be nice.

Now, if the only things I can’t change are the helmet and the plastron, I won’t complain.

343i said it will be inspired by Reach’s customization, so I assume we will be able to do all the things you mentioned. We’ll probably have deeper customization since HI will have weapon charms also.

I just hope its not so cluttered and hard to look at, I’m not expecting much though, 343 and nice UI don’t seem to mix.

That also brings up the halo 5 problem where there were a billion different armors, that seemed to have no quality control, not only were there so many that just looked bad, most of them were just reskins. Which was req packs fault but yeah, and only 2 of them was skill based/ achievement.
Helioskrill doesn’t count because you could get the other version through reqs

I agree 100% I would like to see a lot of achievement armor like how halo 4 had a lot of their pieces. And I think a special armor for completing the campaign on Legendary.
Unfortunately, I don’t think we will get this because it will be free to play. They will have to make money on multiplayer with some form of loot boxes. My guess is it will be cosmetics.

Loot boxes seem to be a thing of the past fortunately, but probably season stuff like mcc. Just with money.

I have this bad feeling that the coating system will be one of the main ways that 343 is going to use for monetization. I still don’t understand how limiting a players freedom to pick out their color expands customization in any conceivable way.

Yeah i still can’t believe it either. It’s very, very odd.

434i said this in the Inside Infinite of December 2020

> Yes, being free-to-play does mean that there will be some premium cosmetics, but players will still obtain tons of customization content through things like playing campaign, challenges, skill, special events, legacy rewards (such as the Halo 5 SR 152 reward), the progression system, and more.

So yes some coatings will be obtainable with real money.
As for the why they think that, I don’t know because their answers weren’t really satisfying (they said the coatings were created with colors that go well with it in mind) and when you see games doing coatings with the possibility to choose the colors that you want, It’s even more unsatisfaying but we still don’t know a lot about the coating system because they were really vague about it (on purpose, I think, but it’s really frustrating) so it’s still kinda blurry to understand. Guess we have to wait for either E3, maybe.

This is one of the quotes from that article:

"Coatings are one part of the customization picture, but we feel all-up we will hit our goal for player representation by offering more possibilities across the entire system. While this does mean losing some player control, it increases the depth of customization that we can achieve internally "

The key here is that they are the ones creating the coating, so we have no way of creating something individual since the coatings are designed internally by 343i
