Customization

I don’t get why 343 added so many helmets in Halo 5. Some of them are really badass, while others either look just ugly. #LegionnaireLooksLikeSquidward
The locus helmet looks like it was made for blind people. Fotus is just… why. Recluse looks like a bug. Enforcer looks like it has a GoPro for a forehead. Engineer looks like something from the deps of a old childrens drawing. Cyclops just looks depressed. Commando looks like a monkey. Goblin, Mako, Fenrir, Foehammer, Legionnaire, Pioneer, Raijin, Seeker has beats headphones on the sides, Stinger, Tracer, venture, Anubis looks like a bee: I don’t know why I think that, Infiltrator, Viper, and that is just a portion of the ugly helmets. Now, down to the good helmets: Pilot(been my favorite sense reach), CQB, EOD, Mark V Delta, etc.( All of the helmets from reach). Helioskrill, Deadeye, and probably the best of them all: The Achilles Helmet. Now, look at how many good to bad helmets have I put, and it isn’t even all of them. I hope that in Infinite we have a lot better customization. As in having a lot of choices for; Chest, Knees, Shins, Feet, Shoulder, Wrist, Thigh Armour, Helmet, and Visor. I am talking putting something like this:

Achilles: Chest, Helmet
Helioskrill: Feet, Knees, Thighs, Wrist, Shoulders, Shins
Visor: Dark Blue
Colors: Black and Dark Blue

This is how you have people loving reach and hating Halo 5, they can have a unique set of armor defining them. We do not want to run into someone with the same armor and helmet plus the same visor. What is your opinion on this?

I think what we’ve been seeing with the customization options we’ve got with halo 3 recently, we can expect something similar or even greater than that

Yeah Halo 5 was a letdown in terms of Customisation, like over 200-300 Sets, people only wear 10% of it

The reason there are so many helmets is to widen the loot pool in the req packs. Best way to counteract that is to game the system and exclusively buy silver packs till they no longer unlock a permanent unlock and then move onto gold packs.

I use the Mako Chthonic armor and helmet color matched to the Sharktooth Grin assault rifle skin because I think it’s funny. And it reminds me of the A10 Warthog paintjob.

I wish you can move the light around when customizing you Spartan because half the visors look really dark unless you’re wearing a fish bowl helmet like Eva and even there dark looking even though I’m game when there’s more lighting it finally looks how it should be.

True. So many of the H5 helmets and armor sets just look ugly. I mean, just take a look at Seeker and tell me how that made it. It looks like someone made it as a joke. Of course, there are a few good ones (the returning armor sets look good), but the majority of them are either bland or ugly.
Also, the fact that you have only helmet, visor and body customization doesn’t allow for much uniqueness in your armor selection. With Halo Reach, for example, there were 8,132,665,405,440,000 possible configurations; approximately 242 times the current population of the Earth (courtesy of Halopedia). With Halo 5, there might still be that many or more, but none of the specific individuality, if you get my meaning.
I look forward to Halo Infinite. Halo 5 has failed us all with its customization.

Much padding in terms of customization of 200 helmets, only 10% of those are used by players, the same happens with armor, very few are worth it … and for infinite it is already confirmed that the customization will be similar to that of halo reach, so we will not have fill as in halo 5

Halo 5 definitely should have had better armor customizations besides just being able to do the armor, helmet, and visor. I feel like they should have possibly taken the customization in a way similar to how Reach has theirs.

So it’s not really what kind of helmets we have, it’s about how we should be able to customize more than our helmet/visor/amour like Reach. But if they don’t have a wide variety of armors/customization, then the overall locked game content will be too small and I’m sure you’ll see a complaint about that too.

I agree some don’t look that good/great; you only see people equip them when they haven’t unlocked those nicer looking ones yet. But going back to the options like we had in Reach would be a welcomed with open arms by most people I would assume.

H5 customization was a big step backward, especially considering how good H4’s system is. As has been touched on, this is almost certainly because of the REQ system. Most of the stuff in there is meant to bloat the pool as much as possible, thereby increasing the number of packs sold. It’s highly anti-consumer. But, it’s clear 343i has learned, seeing that MCC allows us to customize more stuff than we have ever been able to in the past. Looks like Infinite will continue the trend.

Now your Spartan can go “brrrt” without being embarrassed.

My theory is it isn’t just Halo 5. Yes, in Halo 5, just about all the actual armor and helmet options were weak. I have everything unlocked and I still hate it all. The other thing (and this is across the board, not just 5) is the lack of color options. I can go to the grocery store down the street and get more color options out of a box of crayons in the office supply aisle… again… at a grocery store. You’d think is the 21st century, they could have come up with a way to squeeze just a few more color options in these games than they did. Reach was even worse in the color department than 5 is. I think Halo overall did customization poorly, Reach had too many options that took forever to unlock with the grind in place and 5’s options were just awful. Yes I have more options, but they’re just re-hashes of other options in the pool. Let me change more colors with my armor, let me add more pieces or put my own patterns on it. Why can I have three color choices for emblems (which has better customization options that than my spartan does), but I can only have two for my spartan? Just doesn’t make too much sense to me. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do in Infinite… but the microtransactions worry a little… only time we’ll tell so we’ll see. I do like some of the things coming out of MCC, I’ll flip over to that for a while to try to earn some stuff there and customize that spartan… which… here’s another idea… why don’t they tie in all the spartans together? Customize a spartan in MCC? You can carry that with you into Infinite without having to start over and unlock everything again. Earn Achilles in Halo 5 and now you’ve moved on to MCC? Take it with you… I know there’s a lot that would go into that, and I’m sure 343 would rather find a way to monetize that instead of having a universal unlock… but that would be nice to see…

This is the answer, its sad how so many unnecessary mechanics detracted from a game that had so much more potential. IMO microtransactions did to MM what the squad system did to campaign and that was to cause a ripple effect that made literally every aspect of their experience lesser while leaving a clear sight of what could have been.

Its sad but it is what it is. I hope infinite does better and halo 5 can be a learning experience we improve off of. I still love the ideas of Warzone, Breakout, and perhaps even a req system that wasn’t loot box based (imagine if we could just buy the specific reqs I want with credits i earn in game. I could actually save up to get the legendary vehicles I want such as a Phaeton!)
