Customization Options

Armor Customization Proposal Post:

This is something that I was just thinking and chatting about with a few of my friends with. Could 343 ‘theoretically’ do an update to modify the customization options to revert it back to a reach-like style (the ability to change shoulders, torsos, legs, forearms)? (Or even keep it to the simplicity of Halo: 4) This would obviously only apply with sets that you already have unlocked, but not a lot would really have to change. Keep the mechanics of the game the same. This means: leave the Req system, and everything else that has already been laid out, the same as it is, but in the customization menu, have the option to break down the armor once the player gains each type. Again, this would only apply for what you, as a player, have. You would earn points for visors, helmets, ‘blanket armor sets’, etc, but in customization, once you have the set unlocked, you would have the freedom to adjust things at will. What would be the steps to go along doing something like this? Such an undertaking might be hard to do with all of the new armor sets, but none of the less, it is cool to imagine and even more exciting to maybe see. Again, there is no doubt that it would take time, and there may be bugs, but it can be polished in time and would be interesting to see and would not cause the entire system to break down. Use what is already there, and modify only one part of the whole. The appearance of the menu alone sparks tons of interesting layouts and ideas. I love Halo: 5 a lot and am really into forge especially. This is more or less just a thought provoking topic. Let me know what you guys think. I really hope this could become reality in the distant future. A fun little nod to the players that have stuck with the series all these years.
This would ONLY include:

  • Shoulders (left and right) - Torso-body armor - Legs - Forearms - (maybe) black under suits or a third color option
If you think something like this should happen, leave a comment and give your thoughts.

I was a bigger fan of the way halo 4 did it, personally. I’ve heard in a number of places that halo 4 type customization was being added to the game, but they were forced to release before that christmas window, so it was among the large number of things cut from the game, or dumbed down.

Something along the lines of, they didn’t have time to finish the menu for it, or fix the bugs where the random armor pieces would clip into each other and whatnot. I’d definitely be happy if it showed up one day though.

I like this! I do agree Reach had some cooler customization, but I miss the armor effects from Halo Reach. I want to see some flaming heads, lightening, or even armor that is animated…I would also like to see more animated emblems!

Scutt, I definitely agree. The one thing I also miss is seeing your emblem on the armor itself. Maybe if they can make it closer to 4 for an update and then go al out with things like flames for the next game.

That’s a great point! I forgot all about the emblem on your plates.

In my dreams, Halo has a similar customization system to “For Honor”.

I should make this a voting post.

I meant to say emblem on that least post, not armor.

Black undersuits would quench my thirst for customization fixes until Halo 6, to be honest.

I would love this honestly, I had hoped that they would have reach like customization but sadly they didn’t, the addition of said options would be wonderful.

Where did you get that information from?

I have so many ideas for customization options:

  • A glowing visor - Bullet holes - Plasma marks - General wear and dirtiness - Exposed wiring - Fire / water damage - Gashes / scratches / dents - A cracked visor - Damaged, rusted, and missing armor panelsAll of these options should be included in a Reach-style customization system.

I would very much like more in depth customization. Also I want the secondary armor color to take over the shoulders again. Personally with some armors the secondary color is not as visible anymore. Now this would require the ability to change the war paint/armor detail layout.

A step forward from the take on Doom.

In addition, the brightness and contrast of the visor glow can be adjusted precisely, and the battle damage can be stacked together for an extremely war-torn look.

Can you imagine how awesome a battle-damaged Achilles would look?

Itd make the game a lot more realistic! That’s awesome! I would like to say though that I very much preferred the Reach credit system as well as the customization settings. It gave me more incentive to play, rather than get frustrated try to complete a challenge to get the armor I wanted. Plus there were seemingly endless possibilities for armor sets in Reach because of the many different things you could change. I think Reach had the best customization.

^This, plus take away all of the paint job variants of helmets/armor.

We need Doom armour customisation. Head, left arm, right arm, torso, legs, undrsuit, dirty look, clean look and everthing in between, visor clolour and decals. We should also have ALL the colours and shades. Doom allows a colour and decal / emblem to be used on every weapon too. Halo should have the same content imo.

Armour skin editor idea.

Honestly I prefer a more simple armour system, just
helmet,
visor colour
chest plate
left shoulder
right shoulder

You know how one of the gungir skins in h4 (it may be in h5) had a bunch of circles on it? Well we should be able to do something like that, you should go into a menu were you could pick out one of your owned pieces of armor. Then you could pick out shapes and sizes and slap them onto your armor. Also you could change the colors of individual decals. And then it would cost req points to do so, maybe about the same as a gold pack. So it would make a second set so you have the base normal armor and then your custom armor. You could even take it a step forward and publish it and it could be put into a special req pack that costs maybe twice the amount of the gold pack.

Wow

I just came up with this kinda on the spot and realized how awesome this would be
