Customization item rarity levels

What’s the point of any items in this game having a rarity level assigned to it? There are exactly 0 RNG mechanics in the cosmetic unlocks. Every single cosmetic is either bought in the store, or earned in the battlepass.

It makes no sense to assign rarity. Instead, why aren’t they labeled according to uniqueness. Armor coatings with a pattern should all be assigned a class that signifies how unique it is. Armors pieces that have existed in other halos should be assigned to legacy content. Armor that is brand new should be assigned something else. Cosmetics that offer some sort of special effect should be assigned another rating.

Currently, It feels like 343 arbitrarily assigns some rarity level to cosmetics just to justify boosting the price of them in the store.

The bundles with higher rarity items appear in the store less frequently thus making “legendary” items rarer than “rare” items

I would instead consider an indicator that displays the unlock requirements as more appropriate. One way could be to introduce the following rarities.

  • Default (Unlocked by default)
  • Store (Unlocked from the Store using Halo Credits)
  • Battle Pass (Obtainable from a Free Battle Passes)
  • Battle Pass+ (Obtainable from a Premium Battle Passes)
  • Event Pass (Obtainable from time limited Event Passes)
  • Ultimate Challenge (Unlocked from completing the weekly ultimate challenge)
  • Campaign (Unlocked from the Campaign)
  • Special/Other (Given from completing special tasks related or none related to the game or participating in special events)

In addition to these proposed rarities, new could be introduced to reflect new paths to unlock items in the game like Commendation completions or anything similar to that.

I mean, not really though. Anyone can buy them when they come up. It’s not like you’re buying a lootbox with the possibility of getting it. It’s there for everyone. You’re guaranteed to get it. You just buy it. It’s not rare if anyone can buy it and there is an unlimited number available.

Just my personal opinion, but I think they need to drop the rarity rank and give them ranks based on attributes of the armor piece or coating. If it checks these boxes, it’s assigned this rank.

Artificially scarce, artificial rarity, artificial price inflation. You miss a week, you miss a promo, weekly, event, or Legendary cosmetic maybe for a year, maybe forever.

But you get your first “legendary” item in the Battle Pass at level 20. Also, I’ve only seen the $10 bundles in the shop carry “epic” items, despite being a contemporary addon like the $20 bundles.

Yeah, not sure. Feels made up.

In general, the rarities described in Halo Infinite are meaningless in terms of describing the rarity of an item. The main use is instead to classify them into 4 main categories where items in the Common category are unlocked by default and items in the Rare, Epic and Legendary category are pretty much equivalent to each other in terms of rarity.

The rarity levels are literally just for show. They literally mean nothing lol.
