my thoughts:
the only way a certain amount of balance with customizable loadouts could be achieved would be to introduce a distance-damage system in my opinion. when you think about it a dmr and br can both be used in close quarters combat but an AR is not as usefull in a long range battle. now my idea would be to adjust the damage of the weapon with the range, so an ar is very usefull in close quarters and not in long range and the br/dmr damage gets toned down when fighting in close quarters. also it should not be possible to sprint right away if for example you can spawn with a shotgun.
for abilities and perks: they should have a risk reward system attached to them.
examples: jetpack - with the increased weight on your back you have a significant slower base movement but with your AA you can gain a height advantage. risk: slower base movement, reward: height advantage
x-ray: - after you used your forerunner vision your screen blurs for x seconds. risk: desorientation, reward: see enemies through walls
example for perks: say there was a perk to increase damage resistance (i hope not). if you choose that perk you have slower base movement but you can sustain more damage. now there could be a scout perk where you have increased base movement but lowered resistance. now those two would synergize, but two skilled “scouts” could still beat those two, for example by first killing the opposing scout and then using the increased speed to shred the “tank”.
those are all examples to give you the general idea. dont take the examples as given.
So I’ll just choose the BR or DMR (whichever one is better. Yes, one will be better than the other), and have an advantage over anyone else that’s too stupid to do so.
Cool, just don’t whine about whatever weapon I use to kill you.

To be honest, this is what I am afraid of. What if you run low on ammo? Now you can’t just go to the BR/DMR/whatever spawn and get more. Now you have to switch it out with someone else’s weapon. I have to hope that I kill someone who has the same weapon as me so I can pick up their ammo. If I am out of ammo or low on ammo, then I want to be able to find a weapon on the map and switch for it.
If my DMR is out of ammo in Reach and I come across a needler, then I will swap it out so that I at least have something to shoot with.

weapons are going to available on map though aren’t they?
i think it was mentioned in the GI leak they where but i’ll double check …
edit:
“whether as part of a loadout or as pick-u[ during matches, we saw - weapon list”
i’m not sure but this, to me says that weapons will be on map…

I know they’ve only officially tested a few weapons (that’s what the weekly update said at least), and Frankie said power-weapons will still spawn on the maps. I’m not sure if the niche weapons like the PR and the Needler are or aren’t though.

hm… well, it might not be such a bad thing, having to adjust strategy to different weapons and such from picking up enemy weapons could makes things a lot more competitive, but, on the other hand it could also makes things easier since players will be extremely vulnerable if they cannot fight back …
hm… could go either way i suppose but i personally would prefer weapons on map.

We need gameplay right meow.

yup, i really need to see gameplay footage just because the GI article has made me abit worrisome …
> > > > customizable loadouts could increase the strategy and teamwork involved in halo, players will have the ability to choose what weapon and ability set they spawn with, this will allow players to create new strategies and work with there teammates more to combat the other teams strategy and such, they could create and define new team roles by using different loadouts for each player to have a different purpose, these purposes come together to create the strategy that they will use to try and win the game, AA’s should also play key role in this.
> > > >

In order for MLG to accept loadouts, they would literally all have to be 100% balanced in respect to one another and that’s just not possible.
> >
> > balance is a hard thing but nothing is ever going to be 100%, the balance filler should come from teamwork and strategy, weapons and AA on their own they suck when compared to each other but when combined together creates something else which takes away from 1 weapon dominance and creates a much deeper level of strategy and teamwork then we’ve seen in previous halos while still keeping the main core halo gameplay intact.

> Take this new random weapon spawns idea. Frankie said it isn’t completely random and the location it drops varies slightly. Imagine MLG had to include this feature in their settings. Now imagine its the final match between Teams Instinct and Status Quo on Wraparound Slayer. Its tied up 49-49, both teams are setting up near where the next weapon should drop. Rockets drop down but they drop 20 feet towards Status Quo’s side and Status Quo gets them and kills an Instinct member for the win. Status Quo has just won the championship match for 100,000$ because of the random factor. That is why MLG strives for complete, 100% balance. What I just described would be worst case scenario, but similar things can happen on smaller scales and really make people upset.
But chance always has a role in games, frequently even things as simple as spawn points can determine who gets the drop on who, chance can never be ruled out completely.
If I wanted to play a class/loadout based game, I would play something else like TF2, CS, and CoD. I want to play a game with even weapons at the start.
