Customizable crosshairs and raw input

MKB has its issues and I am not making light of them. However, the fact of the matter is the AA are other issues are something that will not be tweaked, ever. We need to accept it and accept the fact that controller users need AA.

What we can do is ask for QoL improvements and features that make the MKB experience better WITHOUT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM THE CONTROLLER GUYS since it will be more easily implemented.

One thing that I would desire to see in this game are customizable crosshairs, especially, the ability to customize the size and color of the crosshairs.

The default crosshairs for the BR, sidekick and other staple weapons are too big. It is not an issue on controller since the AA and RR work in tandem to ensure that a certain shot will land if the RR activates. It is totally alright, however, this is of no use to MKB.

I would like to be able to make my crosshair as small as possible, all the way down to the small dot that appears on screen while sprinting. This is an entirely harmless feature that will take away nothing from the controller users while giving MKB users better visual cues about our shots.

I would like for all MKB users to co-ordinate their efforts and ask 343 to implement such a feature. I don’t want the level of crosshair customization that CSGO or Valorant possesses, I just want them to be able to make them as small as possible and change their base color.

As for bloom and bullet spread, we can estimate the average bloom of a weapon by eyeballing it. The reticule bloom-indicator is not something that I will miss so 343 doesn’t need to figure out a way to implement bloom indicator for smaller crosshairs. It is entirely optional for them, I am okay with static crosshairs.

There have been issues where I have been pointing my crosshair at someone at a distance and some of my shots missed because my crosshair is simply too big to estimate where my bullets will go, tactical slayer on large maps is a common case where this issue occurs… Other times, in a frantic gunfight, you feel as if you shot someone but what really happened was that your entire crosshair was not on the person and the bullets missed. Since the reticules are giant circles, moving targets are especially prone to this issue. A smaller crosshair will help us immensely and it is nothing game-breaking. It is something that provides better visual cues.

A lot of maps in the game have white walls with a bright setting and the PC reticule, which is white in color sometimes blends in the wall, thereby making it difficult to discern where one is actually aiming. Since there is no RR on PC, this can sometimes put one at a disadvantage in gunfights. I would like to have a basic color selection to allow us to choose the color of our crosshairs (red, blue, green, yellow etc).

Nothing regarding the weapon and how they fire will have to be changed. The bloom, recoil and all the mechanical traits of a weapon will stay the same. We’ll just get to know with better accuracy where our bullets will land.

Controller users, I would like it very much if you were help us out here as well. This feature will raise the satisfaction of the newcomers without taking away any of the tools in your arsenal. Satisfied playerbases directly leads to a boost in the overall population, contributing to the longevity of the game.

I understand that a lot of people have their woes but lets get the mechanical issues sorted out first, then we can deal with cosmetics. In my opinion, mechanical issues are far more important than cosmetic ones.

The next thing that I would like is raw input. It is very important for a fps with MKB support to have such a setting.

Let us all take this matter directly to 343 and try and keep this thread active. It is of the utmost importance that these two things (which are relatively simple and don’t disrupt balance) are added to make MKB more viable and closer to how it is implemented in other shooters. Please, let us focus on one thing at a time and try to get this fixed before trying to address our other grievances.

How brave…

Or you know, let us choose from the ones with bloom that have it.
I hate the sidekick reticle so much, if i could just have the AR one I’d do better.

They’re too thick for me, we need a thickness slider as well as a size scale slider.

The biggest issue in terms of visual feedback on KBM isn’t the size of the reticles or the bloom. It’s the fact that you don’t have any indication of whether or not you are within bullet magnetism range.

Bullet Magnetism Range is the range at which the game will “forgive” your aim for not being pinpoint at the center of the reticle and will instead register a hit so long as the reticle itself is either touching the enemy (for hitscan weapons) or is properly leading the target (for projectile weapons).

Console players get this visual indicator from the reticle changing color to match the shield and outline colors of the enemy. For controller players this is also the range where they get aim assist on weapons as well, so even if they couldn’t see it, they would be able to feel it. But KBM players get nothing to indicate to them that their shots will register even if you hit at the edge of the reticle.

343i doesn’t like keyboard and mouse. Not only did they make controller OP, they’re using little tricks to put keyboard and mouse at a bigger disadvantage…

Just an FYI, the crosshair on controller does not always have the be red for the bullets to register. I did a video proving this, if you haven’t already seen it…

My video also shows how much stronger the bullet magnetism is on controller.

It’s not about bravery, It’s about pragmatism. If you think controllers are going to be nerfed for MnK then you are living in a fantasy world. It is not going to happen.

We make the best of what we can with what we have. This is an issue that takes nothing from anyone while adding a feature that anyone can benefit from, if they wish.

Like it or not, you ARE going to need the assistance of everyone if you want these changes to be made. Half the MnK community keeps fighting controller guys and the other half comes up with a new list of war-crimes that has been supposedly committed by 343 with customization and “muh skins” always getting raised up as a topic even if they are an non-issue to mechanics.

This is the simple state of the matter. We can accept it and work around it or we can be obstinate and nothing will change.

I am aware of the entire red reticle fiasco. 343 claims that they did this “to prevent cheaters”. I doubt that’s the case and even if it is, it has failed. They have not reverted the changes and I doubt they will.

The reticule customization and raw input is a good feature to have that will assist everyone with precise aim and devs don’t have any excuse for not implementing it. They can’t use the “muh cheater” excuse here. This is why I want it in the game.

I’m just surprised they haven’t crucified you yet is all I’m saying…

I have seen the video. I kinda want to test that with real players in a private, controlled environment. I will be honest with you. I tested it myself with bots and I could not find any evidence of anti-aim. I feel that a lot of people have trouble adapting to Infinite’s quick movement and strafe speed(the rate at which direction changes in the game) and confirmation bias seems to have kicked in.

If you are willing, we can hop into a server and check this for ourselves.

If my crucifixion could fix things, I am more than willing to be the Jesus Christ of MnK lol.

Yeah except it’d be your own kind crucifying you for saying we’re never gonna convince 343 to nerf AA

I hope people can be realistic for once. I mean, it’s a fact. It is not going to happen period. They are not going to nerf the AA in order to “cater to the MnK users”.

Microsoft is not going to abandon their core community because a bunch of people keep getting killed in video games.

I wish people can see this post and understand that.

Although…this IS the internet. I doubt people are suddenly going to become civilized and rational. I have little hope but still, we gotta do what we can, if only to get a point across.

It has problems besides being too powerful at times, AA in this game is completely flawed, in every way. I can shut off randomly.

If they gave console Titanfall 2 / Apex Legends or even MCC settings for aim and they made the AA actually work they could totally nerf the strength of it. People on console could actually get better aim that requires skill or fits their preference, rather than having having relearn how to aim.
What they have now is none of it.

Well, 343 has said that a bunch of updates and fixes will be rolled out next month with major overhaul.

This is the opportune time for us to let them know of these issues and requests as well. Hopefully, these points will make their way to the devs and we will get an update on the whole situation.

This is why I want this to be an active thread with everyone, controller or MnK contributing something to the discussion. Might as well make this an “Input method grievance thread”.

I would not bank on them doing anything for the M/K side of the game. It was pretty obvious it was an after-thought. So many things wrong with it, not to mention they purposely added hoops for us to jump through while playing for some reason. Either they are completely clueless and were unaware of the huge advantage controllers have over M/K players, or they simply didn’t want there to be a chance for M/K players to actually compete(and purposely nerfed us to stay behind). Either way there’d have to be massive changes to make it better. I highly doubt they try hard for a small portion of their fanbase. Hell, they barely ever even try for their OG fans. Lol Big swing and a miss on trying to add a new slew of players on a new input. It really is just embarrassing from a PC game perspective that this is what they thought was acceptable.

It is unacceptable and so, we must let them know it is so. These solutions seems to me to be a decent middle ground which everyone can get behind and if that happens, there is a good chance of having it implemented.

I mean, all the incessant complaining did manage to force 343 to change the Tenrai event rewards and make it more worthwhile at the same time acknowledging to reform the entire MM system.

Just wanted to show you my support. I completely agree with the point you have made in here and have also been advocating for custom crosshair support for some time as well.

Unfortunately it seems like 343 as well as the majority of the community is not to supportive of MnK users on Halo MCC. Most MnK posts the bring fair and just perspectives to light regarding the lack of support for MnK users usually get ridiculed into the ground.

Hopefully 343 will take notice of some of our requests before the support cycle for the MCC is completely deprecated. Crosshair customization is imo the most realistic thing they could implement that will appeal to MnK players so they feel they have some comfortability and control over their mouse aim. It will also do nothing to the core mechanics of the game so it keeps it balanced and does not leverage any unfair advantage over controller players. Best of both worlds.

Also, I made a post regarding this potential solution some time ago if you want to take a look. Actually got surprisingly supportive feedback. I addressed many of the same solutions that you have mentioned here with the exception of raw input. Lets hope our dying group of MnK players can have our voices heard by 343 before the support ends and the community completely moves on to infinite.

Also, excuse my comprehension. I misread the thread and assumed this was a post for Halo MCC and didn’t realize this was for Halo Infinite, i feel like an idiot lol. Either was the same statement still stands and hopefully we can see this solution implemented in both MCC and Infinite at some point.

I’ve just seen this post and I’d like to continue saying that aim assist on aim and keyboard is useless. We don’t need it we just wanted raw input and crosshair to change color.

Aim assist annoys me too bad on mnk for mainly two reasons:

  • I don’t like to think that what I achieve does not come from my skill.
  • The fact that the game lower my sense when I’m tracking annoys so much because it mess with my muscle memory when I have to change target.

The first reason is just something that is way too personal, but for the second one I think that you guys are feeling in this way too

I’m kinda on the same page. Traditionally, aim assist has been seen exclusively on controllers. Mice? It feels kinda weird. I can consistently hit more shots using Mnk now so I guess it’s not all bad.
