Custom map Inspired by Halo 3's "Guardian"

Hey everyone.

I made a map
CODENAME: GUARDRAIL

So, I want to start with THIS IS NOT GAURDIAN. IT is Guardian inspired, and follows the same archetype Guardian followed. In games with friends who have helped on the map it’s FELT like guardian too. So much chaos, so many clutch near death escapes, so much movement.

IT IS LARGE, but the size is offset by the cannon men/grav lifts placed on various towers, to traverse platform to platform or from upper/lower center cylinders.

It’s not complete, I have alot of extra cover textures to add, but I feel at this time it is safe/playable to open to the public. There are some small things that need to be added for aesthetics (Cover, boxes, initial loadout cameras) but none of them effect the flow of the game on the map, and are purely to make the map a bit nicer.

I’m hoping some people could add me on XBL and we can get a full 8v8 going to really test out the maps capabilities. I’ve only been able to test 4v4 atm, but the map does have full support for 8 4 man teams, or 4 8 man teams.

I really would love to know what people think about this, so please post back if you’ve given it a shot!

Current supported game types:
Slayer (Pro/Team/Big/FFA)

Player supported:
1-32

> Map style:
> - 2 Center Circle Platforms (One upper, One lower)

> 4 “Base towers” North South East West from the center circles

> Each “base” has 2 stories connecting to both the upper and lower platforms.

> Yellow base:
> Features a lower open lower platform with a gravity lift to the upper caves. Upper caves feature an Initial spawn Scattershot, as well as a Gravity lift back to the center platforms(lower typically, but can reach upper with jetpack). Upper middle center also has a Cannon man to yellow for easy map traversal. Lower Yellow also has a spiral staircase leading to the green base. Grenade and typical random loadout spawns periodically through the game.

> Green base:
> Connects to Yellow base via spiral staircase. Contains initial loadout sniper and sniper tower. Lower Green base features an open bridge walkway to other platforms. Many jumps and encourages close combat. Lots of clutch escapes. Cannon man on upper sniper tower to shoot back to center platform in a flash.

> Red base:
> Features a dual box teleport system. One lower and one upper box each connecting to the center platforms. Can traverse between each box via teleported in the corner. Second Initial sniper spawn and is at the top of this base via gravity well. This sniper is directly across the map from Green sniper, and overlooks the majority of the map, but is a much smaller area and provides less cover.

> Blue base:
> Features a multi platform “house” system. Initial spawn rocket launcher and Needler. Has a 4 story building branching back to the center platforms. Reduced gravity on the lower section of this base for easy traversal to the top (only in select areas, you will know)

> Center Additions: A teleporter in the center of the map to traverse to the opposite platform. From upper will bring you to lower. Lower teleporter can only be reached via jetpack or grav lift, but upper teleporter can just be run through.

It should be the only file in my file share, it was done on the “Erosion” map setting. Really personally proud of how I made the map work, basically have everyone floating over an un-used river in the back section of the map >.<

Also; It is tagged with “Guardian” “Remake” “slayer”

Thanks! Hopefully we can kick things off and get a solid custom community again. There’s been some issues with the fileshare, I can’t find any maps uploaded on there! At all! not sure why. Hope 343 fixes it! I have to admit, the custom community has been rather, disappointing? lately, for lack of a better term.

I applaud you for spending 23 in game hours to make this map. I will either add you later today or tomorrow. But still it’s good to find other good and dedicated forgers out there.

BUT, You’re SUPPOSED to be able to go into your file browser, select “Map variants”, and then do a custom search for the author/any tags attached to the file. Unfortunately when I run a search, nothing appears (regardless of the search criteria) so I think it’s broken (The online sharing anyways).

you do realize halo 4 only supports upto 16 players, not 32

Awesome =D I hope the creation forums are as active as the GD though =).

Pics to come soon! Should have them up in an hour or so. These Initial loadout cameras are a PAIN to configure! hehe

Just played, solid map, looks really good, neatly done. I can see how Guardian inspired you, I’m just afraid it’s a bit too big/stretched out to really make it work. A map like guardian, a mid plane with N/E/S/W exits works imo because it is so compact, and you can travel from base to base quickly. Now when you’re on one base, traveling to another seems like too big of a journey. I see how you tried to compensate for it with the mancannons, which could work, But I’d like to see a bigger middle with more opportunities for cover and making jumps, to give the middle a purpose. Now it seems like traveling to the middle is a suicide mission because you are exposed from all angles. On Guardian the middle serves as the quickest way from base to base, and as an opportunity to lay pressure on the enemy if necessary/possible. Of course here you are also exposed, but it is much easier to find cover or get covered by team mates. Don’t want to come across as some Halo map guru or anything, just consider this genuine input from a fellow Halo fan :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d like to finish positively, by saying that the map looks great and I think it has good potential.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I’ll see tonight about cover structures on the center platforms, I agree ATM it’s kind of like a deathwish to be there. This was kind of intended, to encourage combat in the buildings/on close quarters, but is working a little too well/better than I intended.

Unfortunate with the center structures you cant really make them larger, (thought I would love to. There are only 2 circular platform textures in the forge, the one you saw and another identical one, but it has a half circle drop down on the outer portion of the circles.
Maybe I’ll see about adding one of those in, instead of having the teleporter in the center of the middle platforms, I don’t like it there, but needed some way to travel from top center to bottom center quickly.

In aspect to the jumps, I think I could try doing a double bridge to the lower platforms, instead of single bridges. This way you could jump from on of the upper buildings abit more safely than it’s currently set up, and would make for easier map traversal.
