I love it when a game has some customization to it, I love the fact that I can customize my character when I play Halo but I really wish there was some customization for the weapon that you spawn with. It would be nice to at least be able to slap a fresh coat of paint on the DMR or maybe even have parts that interchange. Ideally it would be great to be able to change the appearance of the spawn weapons with paint jobs and change some of the functionality with different barrels, scopes, firing modes (like burst), different stock sizes, and clip capacities so not only would your weapon look better but you could make your gun more accurate or make it shoot faster. Your gun could be customized to your favorite playing style.
Then you best hit up a CoD because Halo is an Arcade shooter, where gun variants are not the norm or desire.
That said I wouldn’t be surprised to see a little middle ground with Halo 4. There could be minor attachments that are just variants of guns. What I mean is the gun would not be able to be swapped out, but there would be a Pistol, then a Pistol with grenade thing like in the trailer. When you pick the gun it is already determined which it is, but the fiction of it is the same gun that is pre-tweaked. The BR could have a similar feel with a BR that does 3 shot burst or a BR with more range/accuracy that does 1 shot like the DMR.
I understand that it is a arcade shooter but classifications aside it is an amazing game that has potential to be even greater. It is supposedly a futuristic setting but our military now has better weapon options than Halo does. The guns need option upgrades.

Halo stays away from customising weapons because it unbalances the sandbox. In my opinion weapon customisation, is the only customisation that halo doesn’t need (apart from the custom games settings).
Absolutely no customization that would give any player and advantage over another. If that were in the game, I honest to god would not buy it. If there is any customization, it would need to be purely looks and nothing else.
The only room for customization in the halo universe is aesthetic alteration without functional augmentation. Though I am not really for it as it isn’t very much halo, having different skins for weapons would not hurt the experience for me, or anyone with similar views, just distance the series from its roots, which Frankie said they are playing close to with Halo 4 anyway.
Weapon customizations are probably the only thing I am envious of when it comes to COD. I love to tweak a character to make them my own. Armour customizations was awesome and I want even more.
Halo has always held itself on providing a fail battleground 100% of the time. Any two players were on the EXACT same playing field no matter how long they’ve played or what they’ve done. The only difference is skill. (Reach moved a little ways away from this, with difference players having different abilities. Much of the community didn’t like it.)
I wouldn’t mind seeing weapons skins, but functional customization needs to stay out of Halo.
No. Everyone’s starting weapons should be the same, unless it’s Invasion or Fiesta. I wouldn’t mind having weapons with different attachments, such as a suppressed Assault Rifle but we shouldn’t be able to customise it ourselves and it should act as a seperate weapon.
Plus, there’s hardly any point in customising your starting gun’s looks as most of the time you swap it for another weapon. It’s not like Call of Duty where you keep your gun for most of the time you are alive.
I don’t know how weapon skins would really work for Halo as you would only ever be able to customize your starting weapon and that’s it because weapons are placed on the map. I would like to see more customization for armor, like coloring individual pieces and placing your emblem where you want etc. You know, really making it your own. To be able to choose which weapon your character holds on the service record would also be a nice addition.
Yeah i would say this caters to the Call of Duty genre simply because varying with the type of game you play, you dont start with the same guns every time.
I would love for there to be gun customization in the next halo games but if it is done I would prefer for it to be aesthetic only.
And if they wanted to make it so there was some functionality to gun customizations that would be cool as long as it is restricted to non PvP areas such as campaign and firefight.
Canonical Reason: I wouldn’t expect to see customizable weapons in Halo 4. I believe UNSC Marines and Army troopers use standard weapons, everyone uses the same kind of Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle/DMR, etc. The Chief is going to be on his own for a while, so unless he paints his gun or puts rocks on it, he can’t do much to add on to it, especially because he only has half a frigate of weaponry, most of which would most likely be damaged or destroyed when the ship start exploding again (Teaser). Forerunner weaponry, I would guess, isn’t very customizable either. The Forerunners never focused much on weapons, because they believed against war and killing, so I think they would have just made a standard weapon that everyone uses.
