I was thinking that in the next Halo, there could be a spot reserved in the playlists for extremely popular custom games. Ones that get a lot of recognition, like THFE’s ones. This playlist would rotate every week, based on the popularity of certain custom games. After about 8 or more weeks, new customs would stop being added & the 8 or more customs already put in the rotation would be rotated once a week. The original custom game chosen would be unaltered. Obviously, the playlist name would change to the custom game chosen that week.
This would be for people who, like myself, don’t really have friends that play Halo & could settle for just being able to play the custom even without the awesome banter (I know that’s a lot of the fun in customs but some people are desperate). Mics would be encouraged but not forced so that if you do happen to meet a few awesome people, you could finally have a group to play a load of customs with.I know Action Sack is kinda like this but it doesn’t really have a lot of the amazing customs that are seen being put out by the community.
So what do you guys think?
Nevermind Matchmaking, I just want a real, proper, functioning Custom Games Browser with lobbies and passwords and all sorts of wonderful options. That alongside a real map editor and Custom Options better than Halo 3’s would make the next Halo the best in the franchise.

Even then, I feel that the distinction between custom games and matchmaking would be diluted.

So you’re saying you want them to be clearly separated? As you said, a browser would be great & would give a more defined distinction to Custom games. Man, I should have put more thought into this.

What I’m saying is that the beauty of custom games is that when people join their friends or people on their recent players list, there’s a sense of familiarity that might be lost if custom game lobbies were completely populated by randoms. That familiarity is what helps to make the environment more fun and relaxed. Also, it’s better for custom games that are reliant on honour rules.
Then there’s also the party leader rotation problems that are associated with a custom game playlist/browser.

Thanks for clearing that up, I didn’t really understand your wording. The playlist would only be a choice though. It would only have a limited amount of custom games & might encourage people to make some friends & play the vast selection of custom games out there instead of playing the same old MM. It would just be there to show people how much fun it could be with friends.
Would probably work great with dedicated servers.
