A custom games matchmaking would make almost every player of Halo 5: Guardians overjoyed. When you look at Halo 3, custom games was played just as much as matchmaking, if not more. You had stuff like Fat Kid, Duck Hunt, Trash Compactor, and so much more. With Halo Reach, Forge had a bunch of new features that you’d think custom games would be more popular then ever. It was played, albeit on a lower level than Halo 3’s custom games. Here comes Halo 4, and custom games became pretty uncommon to come across. Finally we have our current Halo game, the Master Chief Collection, and custom games is pretty dame extinct.
For some reason, custom games is slowly fading from existence and if Halo 5: Guardians doesn’t do anything to bring it back, it’s forever doomed. So we, as the fans, need to make sure this beloved game mode doesn’t have this fate.
But in order to prevent this from happening, we need to see what caused this in the first place.
> 1. Low Popularity
> Halo 3 was undoubtably the most played Halo game in the franchise, from this game forward more and more players have been leaving the series. This, while currently an issue, shouldn’t be a problem with Halo 5: Guardians because it appears to be the next Halo 3 in terms of fun, bringing in more players.
>
> 2. Loners
> When I say loners, these are the people who don’t have many friends on their list, if any at all, including me. This was a huge part of getting a successful custom game lobby however some like to be very cautious with having friends, while this isn’t a problem on Xbox Live, it does have it’s drawbacks.
While there are other, minor issues I don’t mention, these two are the main reasons.
So with this in mind, how do we make custom games better than it’s ever been before? Enter the custom games matchmaking.
> 1. Dedicated Servers
> In previous games, your connection to the game all depended on how good the host’s internet connection was, in Halo 5: Guardians, while you’re in a game, everyone, including the host, will be connected to dedicated servers to prevent lag, disconnection, and other things related to it.
>
> 2. Moderation System
> This gets rid of the idea of a host completely. When a lobby reaches max players, 3 moderators are randomly chosen to protect the lobby. The only thing they’ll have that other players won’t have is the ability is to keep the game in check if the chance is needed. This includes the ability to kick a bad sport once all 3 allow it, and if players don’t like the game, moderators have the choice end the game early. Both features require all three moderators to decide in order to prevent abuse.
>
> 3. Voting System
> Once a lobby is filled, 10 maps + game types are bundled together and be submitted by the player. Players must vote which game will be allowed to make it to the final voting. 5 games will go to the final vote, whichever has the majority vote, will be the game the lobby plays for 10 rounds. All players are required to vote. There will also be a feature to veto to pick new games.
>
> 4. Join Current Session
> You have the option to either join a lobby, or a game currently in session. All current sessions and lobbies will be hid to ensure a balance between the two.
Post your suggestions. We can make custom games return to its former glory.
