Custom Game Settings Issues

I ran a LAN last weekend and ran into issues with custom games. I’ve also encountered these online as well. These bugs pop up pretty frequently as well and, seemingly, randomly.

The LAN gametypes aren’t the default ones, the gametypes are extensions of these with different names. As the leader, I’ll select the gametype from My Files and click Play. The game will start with the correct name but the settings will be the default ones. The way to fix this is to generally just re-select the game mode.

I also have noticed a similar bug (only on custom local games) where we played my a CTF variant of mine that mimics the HCS Time Return one. A good number of games after having played this one, we tried to play our normal CTF variant. I hit Play, the game starts up with the correct name, but the settings are the same as the Time Return one. I re-selected the game and started several times to no avail. Hard reset Xbox Ones to no avail. Rebooted the local servers, no dice. The only way I fixed it was the tickle the settings that were different between the two modes.

Fixes to these two bugs would be greatly appreciated because they slowed down our LAN at times. I imagine these bugs stem from the same code path, which might it a two for one deal.

Thanks!

Haven’t looked too much into this feature, but can’t you make your own local server without physically connecting Xboxes? Or is that what you were already doing? If not, do you get the same errors when using a local server?

I discovered the first bug when just playing online, but also ran into it while playing on a local server.

The second bug I only encountered while playing on a local server, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find it online as well.

I doubt whether playing online or a local server matters in regards to these bugs.

The gametype resetting issue was reported and fixed a long time ago, but as with 343’s history of updating Halo comes the return of previously fixed issues. This likely won’t be fixed, as it reappeared early last year and has only gotten worse. The only thing you can do to combat incorrectly loading maps/modes is to load BUT DO NOT START a map and gametype. After loading AND NOT STARTING THE GAME, you can then reload the correct map and gametype. Simply refreshing the gametype doesn’t always do it.

The other issue sounds like a gametype revert, where you save a new mode and it keeps previous settings or somehow reverts to previous settings. You should just make all new modes from scratch, as annoying as that is.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll just make new game modes to see if that fixes it.

But, really, there’s not a single developer left on Halo 5 to keep the ship afloat?

Pretty much a skeleton crew right now. They update playlists occasionally, but they also made extremely unintelligent changes to the sandbox that maybe two players asked for and everyone else opposed.

  • Does anybody KNOW how to name your custom game? Like title it like for example, ‘UNSC RECRUITMENT’ or ‘DAY-Z’ .?
