In all honesty it’s the only feature I want. I mean I have been waiting since the okay matchmaking system was introduced. Never been a fan of matchmaking, rarely seems to work as intended and restricts what I want to play. But I understand the love for it so it should still be there. However to supplement Forge and Custom Games as a whole I think there needs to be some kind of server list. It also would help the “hardcore” out because they could join vanilla Halo matches.

I am not expecting 343i to contribute server resources except for the searching interface itself, everything would be done through hosts while lag would be an issue I am sure most people would be okay with it.
If custom games and forge would work like Minecraft servers where you have a list of people, that would be fine. I like the idea, but if it’s like matchmaking. I’m sorry if I’m seeing the idea in the wrong way or anybody is taking my idea the wrong way.
Server list? No, don’t need dedicated servers. But it would be cool if you could open your custom game lobby so people can search for custom games. Perhaps when starting the game, you’d be able to write a few words about it; so people can search by map/gametype, then see how many players and the description of the game and decide if they want to join.
Don’t think that would be too many extra resources for their servers.
Sure, it wouldn’t be hard if the game uses dedicated servers, and if it doesn’t use dedicated servers, multiplayer will be horrible with blackscreens, lag, broken true skill and all the stuff we’ve learned to hate from Halo 3/Reach.
However, even with dedicated servers a server browser might be hard to get since Halos never had it, worst case scenario you would just get a name or IP to search for and connect. I doubt there will be a “matchmaking” for custom games, though I hope for a customs server browser ^^
That on the other hand would require 343i to let us players rent/host servers for customs games, which is possible (Battlefield 3 does it) but will cost a bit to for the player, it does cost a bit to have the glory of an private server ^^
