My work friends and I have been trying to play 4 vs 4 Custom Games between two Xbox Ones sitting right next to each other. We expected hours of nostalgia, as we have been playing System Link games like this since Halo 1 came out over a decade ago. We’ve instead experienced quite a number of annoyances:
It is way too hard to change your team. It seriously takes at least 7 button presses per person (X, Select yourself, A, Change Teams, A, Select color, A, B, B, B), and only one person can change their team at a time. Please bring back a 1-button solution (e.g. RB/LB from Halo 3, or maybe use RT/LT because RB/LB are taken at the moment).
Xbox#1 vs. Xbox#2 should be the expected scenario when you have a party made up of people on different Xboxes. For some reason, it always wants to have half of Xbox#1 and half of Xbox#2 against the other half. That makes no sense.
Team settings don’t persist between games. We join together in a big party, and set our teams such that all players on Xbox#1 are on the Red team, and all players on Xbox#2 are on the Blue team. After each game, we need to fix all team members. If we change game mode (from Halo 2 to Halo 2 Anniversary to Halo 3, etc.), we have to fix it also.
Joining a party in-game takes forever. These boxes are sitting right next to each other! Why is this so difficult!? I’ll assume for now that this is related to other issues in Matchmaking…
The most recently played game types should appear first. Right now, I have to go to the category (slayer), and then scroll all the way to the right to get to our typical game type (Team Slayer with no Radar, or Shotguns + Snipers).
It would be really nice to have custom playlists within Custom Games that could span between the different games (Halo 1, Halo 2/Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 4). Then we could set up the maps and game type pairs that we play most often. Adding the ability to vote on the next one to play, or have a “random shuffle” option would then also be nice. Right now, especially with the issues above, it takes a long time to go from one game session to the next.
I had the exact same experience with seven friends tonight. Changing teams is crazy!!! Really takes the fun out of it. And it resets the teams after every game. Why can’t you play with the same team through multiple games like all Halo games before this.
Wow, I’m surprised. If this doesn’t change, I’ll probably set up our 360s again for our lan parties. Did not see that coming.
How did you guys get the system link to work? Did you simply have both consoles connected to Live and join that way? Did that allow you to play locally through Live without lagging?
Any help would be much appreciated. Trying to host a MCC LAN party tonight!
Awww man you just ruined my weekend. A bunch of my buddies where bringing their systems and monitors over so we could actually Lan game tonight since the servers are so janky right now. But essentially what you are telling me is that its Not the servers that are Janky but rather this subpar release DAMN!!!.
I was seriously hoping the party issue was an issue with the servers but now it seems you have confirmed its a game issue.
Man I was going to have a lil over thirty people over tonight everybody with their xbox ones two sets of 4v4v4v4 going on. Then Later two sets of 8v8. But I’m not even going to waste the electricity if this is the case. Going to do some testing with my two systems first when i get home to HOPEFULLY see if the OP was talking about ONLINE.and not LAN.
On a different note not even sure if we can play 8v8 since when online the BTB says max people is 12 and only seems to search 11 slots plus yourself. So yeah I have a ton of quick testing to do.
On another note atleast I can come in 1TH haha the typos in this game are hilarious.
So system link doesn’t really exist. We had to connect both xboxs to the modem and sign in with two Xbox live accounts, then had to bring in our friends with the add guest feature in the Xbox os. It wasn’t laggy but it was super buggy overall. It’s very clear the developers weren’t prioritizing LAN type play at all.
The teams changing every game makes for a nightmare scenario when playing with more than just a few people. I’m extremely disappointed this is the case as LAN parties are a huge reason I play this game.
Unless some one sort of patch is released, halo on 360 is a much much better option for lan.
