343i initially toyed around with the idea of being able to customise the controls for Halo 4, but they decided to take this option out. I’m confused as to why? It’s fine that they made a number of pre-sets that they think will work well, but why not have an option to personalise the controls? It wouldn’t hurt to have the option. Anyone else want this option?
Who ever said that they had custom button-mapping.

It was in the last bulletin. They had it in, got some MLG guys to test it, they didn’t like it so they took it out.
I heard it was because it made some button combination glitches, such as the old famous BXR, very easy to create and very hard to remove from the game. Full control could make for some unintentionally fast combos, and I heard it was far more work to make sure it was unbreakable, and even then there would be no guarantee that someone could find a way around it.
An example of OP custom button mapping can be seen in Starcraft 2, with ‘Scroll snipes’ or ‘scroll terrans’. Basically, people assigned the ‘snipe’ or ‘spawn infested terran’ hotkey to the scroll wheel with a 3rd party program, and it dramatically increased the speed at which the spell could be casted. This modification is now against the rules because it gives a significant advantage.
Now obviously there is no scroll wheel on a controller, but the principle is there. That’s what I heard, anyway. Sounds reasonable IMO.
They’d have to test every single possible combination to get rid of any glitches. They just didn’t have the time and/or resources to do so. Presets are good enough for me, though, there’s always one you can get used to.

That was for Bumper Jumper. They made X for throwing grenades (something I cannot still comprehend as to why) and LT for AA. however, this confused the Yoink! out of the MLG players, and many Bumper Jumper fans (myself included) were very upset about this. so they finally logically switched the two buttons, and made every Bumper Jumper player very happy. The End.

Thanks, my bad, I misunderstood that part and thought they were talking about custom setups. Oh well. I’ll be using Bumper Jumper so.
