I’ve been separated from Reach for a very long time, now. I started Achievement hunting again. I decided to pick up Reach and set some custom challenges for myself, see how much they’re worth(messed up BUT understandable that you can’t set the amount) and I was largely disappointed that the options were so few in numbers. I noticed that the ‘Kills With Weapon’ option was only for custom games and Campaign. I guess that was for balancing purpose, but what exactly are we balancing? These custom challenges are for me and any friends I invite only. It’s not like we’re taking over the official Reach challenge system. (We kinda should, though.) Same with medals, as well. I noticed that there’s an option to set how many medals you can get, but not what specific medals. I noticed that you can choose TYPES in Custom games, but nowhere else. I honestly wonder how much REAL harm can be done from letting us choose something like that. I mean, look at that 25K Every 6 Minutes thread on Waypoint. Not only is that a clear break in the ranks, it’s even legit! I also feel like certain liberties are being taken away from us when that happens. Bungie/343i asks us to Roast 'em, Toast 'em, Cook 'em, Clean 'em, Suck 'em, -Yoink- 'em earning Firebirds with Jetpacks every Wednesday, but we can’t challenge ourselves or friends to earn some Pulls instead?! Injustice!!
Lastly, I want to talk about the Constraints. Certain challenges pull up maps, skulls and difficulties, which is good. Some, just the maps–which is okay. A handful of challenges don’t offer constraints at all, which is bogus.
You guys can’t give us a checkbox that says ‘complete without dying’ or ‘do in one game’ or something special like that? This also helps make challenges more unique, interesting and–you guessed it–challenging.
I had a whole bunch of challenges I came up with, some I shared on this forum, some I wrote on my iPhone. I’m going to see how many(if any) I can recreate.
I however feel a little saddened by the lack of options here. I really thought I could make some interesting challenges here. Some of you liked them, too!
