Custom challenges are being abused.

I love playing Reach, but I also like having goals. As do a lot of people. (Look at the Call of Duty franchise) Since Arena is broken, and the 1-50 level system has been removed; players like me play for CR’s so they may rank up. Unfortunately, my desire to rank up in Halo: Reach has met it’s demise with the introduction to “Custom Challenges” Everyone and their grandma is aware of how broken they are. Nobody uses them to “challenge” their friends, and if they do, nobody takes the challenge seriously. Custom challenges have been used to rank up fast, and with ONI sword base people have managed to hit the CR cap within minutes using custom challenges. I know I have, but it’s boring. Ranks are becoming unlegit, and people who play the game how it should are not being recognized because of the possibility of them boosting for it. You can’t prove how they managed to earn their rank, so you take the rank for granted. For me, it has killed my motivation to play the game, because I know I can boost 120k of credits in under a half hour boosting on ONI Sword base.

Before you post…

-That’s nice if you play for fun, but we are talking about the newly broken ranking system.

-It doesn’t matter if you legitmetely earn your rank, it’s still spoiled because of the exploit.

Seriously, who would complete a weekly Laso challenge these days?? You can earn twice as much in a fraction of the time!

I hope 343 removes custom challenges, or at least makes it impossible to complete/make more then 5 challenges a day, and make custom challenges unable to be completed by the creator.

I have voiced concerns over the matter. I have PM’ed MM systems for an answer if it is infact breaking the rules. No answer. So its coming down to this. "If you can’t beat em’ join em’ "

Sucks to say, I can make it to inheritor in three days if I start raping customs or 12 if I do it the right way. Which I am still on the fence about.

Part of me says, Go for it!

Part of me says, Don’t do it dude, if you get in trouble, then its all for not.

credits don’t mean a thing anyways. they never have. you cant look at someones reach rank and think “oh he’s a good player” because it has not skill base behind it whatsoever.

I see the problem that you’re addressing, but you are aware that no one cares about ranks, right? Maybe when everyone saw their first inheritor people thought “ZOMG INHERITOR ZOMG”, but now it’s just “oh look another kid who loves this game way too much”. The only thing having a high rank does for you in this game is to get you called a “no life”.

And you are aware that in the play time alone from Reclaimer to Inheritor you could prestige 15+ times in CoD. 1 Rank, takes more time than all of Black Ops. Bundle that with the 1280 total levels you will go through in BO, which poops out an unlock practically every one of them, and you, or Bungie for that matter, expect people to be motivated by such a system?

Very much of the community feel this way about the ranking system, thus the REASON for custom challenges. 343 put them in there to specifically help relieve the miserable experience that is ranking up. I’m sorry that you feel “cheated”, but you a part are the vast MINORITY who are not pleased with the addition of custom challenges.

> Seriously, who would complete a weekly Laso challenge these days?? You can earn twice as much in a fraction of the time!

Who would complete a LASO challenge… ever?

In the multiples hours that it takes to do a LASO challenge (assuming it’s not nightfall or the first misson), you could get far more credits playing MM. 2 hours of Matchmaking will poop out at least 50,000 for higher ranks.

Unless you are an actual MLG competitor the word legit means nothing at least not on Reach. And it is after all a video game. You know, cheat codes, short cuts, glitches, etc; so the word legit does not apply or mean anything. Some kids think it does but it doesn’t. Rank means nothing so don’t worry about it. If you want to rank up then do so by what ever means you deem to be “legit” and be happy.

Laso is fun and takes skill, knowledge and improvisational skills. It is one of the truest “legit” challenges you’ll ever get. Yet you complain that you don’t want to spend the time doing them because they are too hard and you could could get more credits somewhere else. You contradict yourself.

In short play how you see fit and let others do it their way. You know you can set up challrnges for your “legit” games too. Enjoy the gifts 343 gave you in an effort to help make up for a broken system that will be obsolete wiithin a year once HALO 4 is out!

I have read the OP’s post and the responses, and I have my two cents to add.

The Reach ranking system was broke the first day it came out, period and end of story on that subject.

Bungie did away with the 1-50 ranking for one simple reason…to get players back to playing.

I was more then pissed to leave Halo 3 for a while, only to come back and find out I had to reacquire everything I had already done, with a new ranking system, and believe me I was NOT the only person who felt they got hosed and let down.

Reach’s system was never designed to be a so called ‘competitive’ system, it was all about being rewarded for playing, regardless if you won or lost in the match/game you’d played.

Then, within several weeks of being out, people figured out, about the glitches and boosting that could be done, and Bungie intervened, by putting a credit cap into place, and then raising the cap from 60k per day to 120k per day, other wise no one would ever play long enough to even get to the rank of Inheritor.

Then someone, can’t name names, played everyday for 8-12 hrs per day and became the first Inheritor, and for whatever the real reason this person was demoted and reset, is still one of the hottest and most controversial topic around. The formula that is place, with the 120k credit cap is 7000 games at 3000 cR per game to hit Inheritor. It can be done via FF and it works out to about 5500+ games, or 175.6 days at hitting the Cap each and everyday.

Ladies and Gentlemen…boys and girls…this game has been out for over a year, and still has less than 1% of 1% of it players (meaning total games sold) above the rank of Field Marshall. That’s just wrong, and the Cap should have been abolished long ago.

As far as being legit, what does that really mean. You never once ever used the reload check point with the target locator, please since there is really no way to find out if you did or did not, other than your word, how could anyone ever make such a claim, unless they never have played anything within this game other that Arena or MLG playlist ONLY.

Custom Challenges are a God send for each and every one of us, and I thank 343 everyday for them. And since I, myself, and countless others are doing the ONI one or something else, as long as it directly does not interfere with you and your game, then why would you really even care if I or ten of my friends, or ten of your friend’s became Inheritor before you or me or the rest of the Reach community???

If it was wrong or a sin or against your principles, then simply don;t do them and sleep better at night…for I sleep like a baby by doing them, as well as my friend who have already made Inheritor by doing them.

OH…and none of them have been banned or reset to date, and won’t ever be, because they did NOTHING wrong…

cR and cR rank are meaningless in this game.

Don’t see why you care so much, OP.

You seem to use the word Nobody quite frequently. There are people who challenge themselves, for example a couple of my friends and I create challenges like get 100 kills in matchmaking. We compete to earn that ‘1st place’ medal and just do not care for the 3000-4000 cR we get from it. But I do see what you are getting at, by nobody you mean a large sum of people that are really annoying because they are exploiting a game that we all enjoy playing for fun. Just directly tell them ‘-Yoink- you’.

So what exactly were you hoping for? Before custom challenges, it would take 8 hours of firefight (the very definition of boring) to hit the credit cap fastest. THAT is “legit”? Or would you consider 10-12 hours of matchmaking “legit” (and if you DID play 10 or 12 hours of matchmaking, and had a negative KD, but you were a forerunner, would you be “legit”? Or does that not count since you aren’t awsome and it doesn’t match your rank?)? Your problem is YOU. If you are playing to rank up without custom challenges, then do it. If that’s what makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something more power to you. I don’t have 12 hours a day to play, and I love the fact that I can now hit the daily credit cap when I couldn’t before. You are completely ignoring the thousands of players who are obviously quite happy with this addition. In fact, I’d say based on your own assessment, you are probably a minority, no? What happened to the vote? To me, the vote is clear. You lose.

Play the game for whatever reason you enjoy, and you will never fail to gain from it. If you sit around and try to force your own definition of “legit” on people, not only will you lose, but all you’ll earn is a head shake from the people that will listen to you.

Who cares. If people want to get top rank the meaningless way, let em carry on. Let the baby have their bottle. You can easily tell a booster from a legit inheritor anyway.

At least its less destructive than the 3 years of fiddy laundering we put up with.

I’ll admit, I’ve abused it. Constantly.

But hell, I still did the LASO Challenge. I play for fun. I don’t play much competitive, because it’s not fun nor competitive like the old Halo 2 and 3 days.

Yeah, I’ve been called a FF -Yoink!-, I don’t care, that’s the only playlist I have fun in. :\

As for abusing the custom challenges, Hell, I just want the damn Haunted Helm, the only time I play “competitive” is if some of my friends are online, otherwise, it’s just damn boring.

I could not agree more with this. I have given possible solutions to the custom challenges to be less “broken” (as some would call it), but in the end what would be the point of putting a hamper on those who want more credits at this time? Nothing. Rank equals the amount of credits one has obtained within a player’s career and nothing more.

I too did the LASO challenge. I did it twice for both fun and friends, and FF is fun (though in small doses for me).

A player’s skill is determined in the game and how they play; not if their helmet has a skull in it or if they have storm clouds farting out of them or if they have the highest rank, but from what I keep seeing from the complaints on the forums why would one care about rank if Reach does not equal skill or even considered “Reach”? Some of the complaints on these forums are fairly contradicting to each other.

Not that I’m saying anyone is wrong or right, but you do have to admit that between the anniversary map pack and the custom challenges, there have been more people returning to Reach in the last month than in the last six. Something is working.

I am aware that there’s people who plan their whole lives around exploiting the custom challenge system, but if that’s how they want to spend their time, let them. These meaningless ranks are waaaaay too time consuming to grind for me to ever care.

> Ranks are becoming unlegit, and people who play the game how it should are not being recognized because of the possibility of them boosting for it. You can’t prove how they managed to earn their rank, so you take the rank for granted.

When were ranks legit in this game? Last time I checked rank =/= skill.

Before the custom challenges were even made there was already bad Inheritors.

You should really stop caring about earning meaningless credits that earn you a meaningless rank.

> U Mad BrAH?

Do you have anything constructive to contribute or do you always just regurgitate the same stupid and useless e-quotes like this?

Ranking is broken and it doesn’t matter. Personally, I don’t see why 343 added custom challenges that allows people to break it even further only to credit ban them for something they didn’t bother to fully test.

> Not that I’m saying anyone is wrong or right, but you do have to admit that between the anniversary map pack and the custom challenges, there have been more people returning to Reach in the last month than in the last six. Something is working.

This. right here, means that either people are coming back to reach and buying the map pack for nostalgia, or all the campers, cheaters, and various other pieces of filth(No offense.) are abusing custom challenges for their own good. I believe we should have a limit of custom challenges you can do per week, and set it at twenty or so challenges.

Are you people really complaining because 343 has given us a way to earn MORE credits?! OMG. Not that many people play Reach anymore, this helps the few that do possibly have a chance at hitting Inheritor before H4 comes out. I don’t see why all the Inheritors get all salty when other people get them. Oh you “earned” it, by playing FF non-stop? Cool. No one cares. Now you’ve got 10+million cR sitting there that you can do nothing with because your doll is already 100% dressed. Rank doesn’t even mean anything in this game for the 1millionth time. Every Inheritor I play is bad.

unlike you i play for fun and i dont have money for buying gold so i rely on the challenges for my spartan but since i dont have gold i can not complete the armory without overusing the disc and xbox system. i see your point but it shouldnt be all players only the ones with a gold membership that way its fair for gamers like me who dont have gold memberships and have to wait for a daily and or weekly challenge we can complete also im not in it for the stats im in it to play and complete the game because my goal is to unlock the armory not to show off but to have fun.
