custom challenge time limits

Wasn’t sure if anyone else noticed but the longer the time limit for a custom challenge the less points you get. Looks like you lose 25% of the base cr by 7 hours, 33% by 12 hours, and by 60 hours (the maximum time limit) you lose roughly 50% of the cr you would get at 3 hours(the minimum time limit). I tested it with a few different challenge types and the percentage of cr drop was the same for both.

Very interesting. Seems to follow what others have been saying, which is make the challenge short and right before you want to start it for maximum cR.

That also makes sense from a playing perspective. My intention is to make challenges to start, then play and pick them up as I go. As I finish one, add a new one.

Oh and 343, time for the credit cap to go up! If I can gain extra challenge credits and they count towards teh cap I’ll hit the cR limit in 3 hours every day now!!

Well I believe - and this is why I was calling for information on a FAQ about Custom Challenges from someone at 343i or one written and factually checked by someone at 343i - that the Custom Challenges DO NOT count against your credit cap. Can’t recall if this was on Waypoint or back over on Bnet, but I heard someone say that Bungie’s control is still over the Daily and Weekly Challenges in so far as the actual “challenge” has been dictated for several months and the only thing that 343i can alter is the credit output.

The same person I read this post from said they discovered this by trying to boost for achievements prior to CEA coming out and seeing one of those “kill 400 enemies in any game type” challenges NOT moving while they were boosting w/ Guest controllers when they saw them on Waypoint, yet on Bungie’s website those kills were counting toward the very same Daily Challenge.

It’s another reason why I was asking for an FAQ - so many people are spouting things that “appear” to be true but no one knows for sure. Would be nice to know the truth instead of more rumour and superstition like what took place prior to CEAs release regarding new armour, new ranks, etc.

but isn’t boosting that way bannable so not really a smart idea.

Well that sucks. I was actually messing around with it today and was wondering if I could create my own custom weekly challenge. Not a bad idea, am I right? Anyway, I was disappointed when I saw the max time limit at 60 hours, but now that I know the credit payout is actually cut with extended time limits I definitely don’t want to do that. You would think the credit pay should be based on the actual objective of the challenge, not the time limit. You would need a bigger time limit to complete a tougher custom challenge, just like you need a longer time to complete a weekly challenge on Reach.

I agree, if you up the difficulty you should get more cr since you lose cr for making the time limit longer and essentially making it easier to complete. I checked to see if you got more cr for a harder challenge, i.e. so many cr for 10 kills but even more cr for 1000 kills, but it did not add any bonus for a harder challenge. 44cr for 1 kill and 4400 for 100 kills. No point in making it harder… might as well do a challenge for 10 kills over and over again rather than making one mega challenge that you might not be able to complete.

My question is can you turn in a challenge in the middle of a game and make another one before the match is over? These custom challenges are kind of like interest rates… the more often they’re compounded the better. Since you can’t predict how many kills or medals you get in a match you could theoretically make a custom challenge for 1-2 kills and likewise for headshots and medals. Every time you get a kill you could quickly turn it in and remake the same challenge to maximize cr.

You get a bonus for doing the same challenge faster. For example, try creating one that is 200 kills in 36 hours, vs. one that is 200 kills in 3 hours.

Also, adding constraints in Campaign increases credits as well (except for Map constraint).
