Custom Challenge: No Credits Awarded?

Hi there everyone,

Yes, this is my first point on the Waypoint forums, though, I am not new to Halo in the slightest.

I just came back from an extended break, and in the last few days I discovered 343’s … “Custom Challenges.”

With that, I have watched several Youtube videos on how to create challenges that will award a hefty amount of credits in little time.

So, I followed these guides and created 4 challenges of my own, each with a payout of 5,000 credits.

After setting them all up, I went in-game and completed them all. I then went back to my computer and turned each challenge in. (As a side note, I still had over 2 hours to complete them all… Because I set the timer to 3 hours originally).

Anyway, time ticked away… And I continued playing. I periodically checked back on the website to check the time remaining… And finally when it was time I stopped playing. I let each timer tick down to 0 minutes remaining.

Afterwards I went into a matchmaking game, and I expected to see my payout at the end of it. However, I saw nothing… Except for what I earned in the game.

I then went back to my computer and checked my service record to see if my XP bar had moved forward 20,000 points/credits/XP, or whatever you wish to call it… And it did not.

I remained 19,725/23,000 (Captain Grade 2) … When I should have been promoted to Captain Grade 3… And possibly even further.

So with that, I leave you with my question… Am I doing something wrong? Like I said, this is brand new to me, so I am asking the community for some helpful guidance!

Thanks so much in advance,

Custom Challenges have been known to be rather dodgy when it comes to payouts, they may come in the future, they may not.

A small suggestion is, don’t let the timer run out for them, hit the turn in button when you have completed them, it awards the credits instantly and allows you to make more

PS: It doesn’t actually show you the custom challenge credit payout after the end of a game, it will just simply add on when you finish a game with no notice.

Moa,

Thank you for your swift response!

The information regarding custom challenges was very insightful.

With that, to you or anyone else who may come across this thread…

I forgot to mention that I did 2 sets of 4 custom challenges.

Meaning…

I created 4 custom challenges… Completed them all in a short time. Then turned them in.

Then

Before the 1st set of 4 custom challenges timed out.

I created another 4 custom challenges… Of the EXACT same objectives… And then completed them, and turned them in when the 1st set of 4 custom challenges had about 40 minutes remaining… Until my “Supposed” payout of 20,000 credits.

Should I not have done that? Should I have let the 1st set of 4 challenges time out, and pay me my credits? Or does that not matter at all?

Theoretically could I create any amount of custom challenges… Do them… Then turn them in, regardless if I have previous challenges that are still counting down their time until their payout?

Anyway, if you or anyone else has any comments regarding this… I would greatly appreciate the insight!

Thanks in advance,

In my experience the cR are awarded within a few minutes of the challenge being turned-in - you do NOT need to wait for the full time period to expire, despite what the website says. At most I have waited 10 minutes, usually less than 3.

There is no problem with setting an identical set of challenges immediately after completing a set - once you turn-in a challenge it is done.

I personally haven’t noticed a change in my progress with Custom Challenges either, but I am a much higher rank than you (I’m a Legend), so the challenges may have given me my cR, but not a significant difference was noticed. Here’s what I do with my Custom Challenges:

I make the challenges, and I make them pretty hard too, like 250 kills in 3 hours for about 10k cR.

I play in hopes that my day is good and I can get my challenge complete.

I [might] complete it, and I go back to my Custom Challenges page, and there’s a button that’s like a “redeem” button. It says that I won’t get the cR until the timer (which isn’t there because I turned it in) runs out, and I have about half an hour left if I’m lucky.

I go play another game until my timer runs out (sometimes more Halo, sometimes Portal 2).

After the invisible timer runs out, I go back to the Custom Challenges and repeat.

Idk if it has given me any credits, but it is pretty fun.

I hope this helped! :]

Hey there everyone!

Thank you all for your insight into this issue. Upon further investigation last night, and tooling around (trial and error), I was able to successfully retrieve my credits!

So, as of this moment my issue is resolved!

Thank you again to all of those who posted, and I hope that this thread is of use to other people who may have been or still are experiencing the same issue that I was having!

This is about spot on. Turn them in as soon as you complete them so that theyll be rewarded the next game. Youll never see them added on at the end of the match but your total credits will increase past what you got for that game.
