Custom Campaign Difficulty?

I don’t remember if this had been brought up before, but anyone think this would be cool?

Similar to Reach’s firefight settings, you could create a custom difificulty for the campaign. You could set the enemy strength, enemy numbers, your strength, etc. You could make yourself a god and blast through the campaign with your eyes closed, or make yourself a true warrior, up against numerous and intelligent foes, that aren’t as low as Heroic enemies, but aren’t as menacing as Legendary enemies.

This could work for Spartan Ops too.

Maybe you could use “Spartan Points” to unlock more slots to make custom difficulties. Or unlock more options to manipulate. Or 343i shows their true kindness and makes it require no unlock.

Agree? Disagree? Anything to add?

Yeah, but it should only be unlocked when completing the game on Legendary, so people don’t have 50% gravity and overshields in their first playthrough.

Good point.

Yes, I agree.

Custom options for Campaign would be awesome. Another cool idea would be the option to turn off invisible barriers.

would b cool but people would find way to many ways to exploit it

No. Invisible barriers are there for a reason.

I like the simplicity we currently have.

Yes, the reward for completing the game and finding all “if there’s anything to find during the campaign of Halo 4”.

> I like the simplicity we currently have.

Even just a few options after completing the game on Legendary would be nice. But Daily challenges could only be done on the normal modes.

Sure, I would love to be able to turn on skulls for Spartan Ops, imagine the fun
Campaign sure could use some love too, especially since Legendary has a tendency to mean “bullet sponges” instead of “skilled enemies”. I rather see a “normal” elite with heightened awareness and skill, for “legendary”, then a dumb tank with no skill at all. This would be a great way to make it happen

Then don’t use that option? It’s called SOLO for a reason.

Yeah, to keep us in the story.

Otherwise, they’re completely unnecessary. One can’t just skip the entire level like the AotCR bridge jump these days. There are loading points that must be triggered, enemies that must be spawned and killed (i.e. the Flood before Final Run on Two Betrayals, the Brutes at the end of Tsavo Highway).

If anything, the removal of invisible barriers would ensure that we can customize our experience even more.

Before doing the AotCR bridge jump, one could cross the bridge and trigger the loading point first so they can spawn the enemies without having to go up the elevator. Once one got down, he could go and move some Ghosts and Shades, bring a Banshee and the tank to the door, and retain the flipped hog so the game can spawn another one. Go through the door and presto, the enemies spawn and you can now fight them with the tank, banshee, or with 2 hog gunners.

Ah hell, I don’t have to explain it. Just read these:

The guy’s amazing to do such experimentation. Have you seen anything like this in Reach? I think not.

You can also do mischief like this on Silent Cartographer, Keyes, Outskirts, Delta Halo, etc, etc.

There was a time when stuff like this was possible in solo campaign… it should still be possible today.

I don’t give a -Yoink- about story and cinematics (Reach was clearly about that. The unskippable cutscenes and how the cutscenes had some sequences that we could have been a part of but weren’t a la Tip of the Spear opening cutscene, which is why I hate first person cutscenes!). I want to get into the action and appreciate the story from there. Reach forced me to stay in the story. Even ODST and H3 did that.

ODST’s ONI Alpha Site teleports you off the bridge.

H3 often makes it difficult for you to go back to a previous area. You have to pull off ridiculous jumps or use equipment to return to those locations and often, it’s impossible because some cave-in magically happened.

Heightened is exactly what they need. I dislike how player positioning is used 90% of the time to ensure the AI can keep up with you. In H2, this was only used in the hangars and bomb room battle and could be exploited.

When I walked on the beach of LNoS, hid in the water, the AI would go up to the facility as normal. As soon as I went up the beach, they would come towards me and I was a sitting duck unless I sprinted back into the water.

The enemy AI do not need crutches.

Personally I’d customise legendary to have sheer numbers of enemies without bullet sponge effects. I’ve always wanted a real blast your Spartan path through enemies taking loads of enemies down with single headshots and swivel to the next, duck into cover pick off some grunts, sprint to next cover capping a few more etc.

That type of stick and move is what I love, legendary bullet sponges are just plain boring for me.

Also having to shoot grunts twice was annoying and not as beast-solo-mode fun as capping them with single headshots.
