Custom Button mapping is a must for halo 4

Custom button mapping is a one of those good gimmicks that will draw people in. Lots of Xbox gamers have been wanting this option for years now. Putting custom button mapping in Halo 4 is another way to prove that 343i is a good developer(we already know that but newer people won’t) and cares for its fanbase and it will draw new people in as well.

I know I’ve seen many posts/threads about this topic, and every time, I agree with it all the way, it is a must, because there are some people out there who can not use all of the buttons, and some of us have a different set up we like.
Also, some of us are too stubborn to get use to a new set of controls.

Is custom button mapping like making your own controller settings?

Absolutely. I’ll probably never use them and will most likely stick to a preset button setup, but I see no reason not to include it for people that would use it.

Yes, instead of having a select few preset button lay outs, you can remap your controller so instead of using right stick zoom, you use the left trigger, instead of right trigger to fire, it’s left stick. It’s one of the main reasons why I love PC gaming over Xbox gaming, is because most games I can remap how the control lay out is, because I have a set lay out I use for gaming, and some games the button for crouching is C, and others it’s CTRL.

There isn’t really a set standard on control lay outs, every game developer has his/her own set up for that game.

There is literally no reason not to include it.

That would be interesting I would probably stick with the default controls myself but there are others out there that would want to have the same setup in all the various games and would find this really useful.

P.S. I know this is silly but I when I first glanced at this thread I thought by custom button it meant for forge like you press a button and a trap occured like the gate in Halo 2 Zanzibar…

That isn’t exactly true, adding custom controller layout complicates the game to a certain degree and will make certain players feel that the game is only geared at very serious players.

However, I feel that button mapping is something that should be added as its tradeoff is generally favorable.

i honestly fail to see how making it customizable would make the game more complicated…

this button does that,

even at a code level i don’t see it making things more complicated, might effect performance by i highly doubt that…

You do realize that there would still be default control layouts?

They should include this, as well as the preset controls they already have, as not to alienate more casual gamers. When you click on the controller layouts, there should be two tabs: ‘Preset Layouts,’ with all the preset schemes we know and love (Southpaw, Classic, etc.), and ‘Custom Layout.’ Click on that, and it will show every function in the game, and you can individually select what button corresponds to what action.

I see no reason for this.

Custom button mapping has been ignored for far to long. Halo 4 should change the gaming industry again.

I don’t see why it shouldn’t be included. I’ll probably just stick to the good old “Recon” control set-up, but I think that would be awesome for the people who want that.

Custom button mapping makes tricks like BXR and the like a lot easier. There are reasons the controls are preset.

BXR?

I’d like to see a Custom option (where you can use your own custom button mapping) alongside all the old button options Halo fans have played with and loved ever since Halo CE.

I absolutely agree with this. I’m still surprised it hasn’t made its way into previous Halo games yet (on console anyways).

It couldn’t be terribly difficult to implement, right?

A Halo 2 glitch in which the right combination of buttons made firing immediately after melee possible, resulting in instant kills.

I support this thread, Keep presets but allow Button mapping <3
