Cussing in Halo 4?

I’d like to hear your opinion regarding the use of curse words within Halo 4 (and perhaps future Halo titles/media). As you may know, swearing within the Halo franchise is usually kept to a minimum. There have been few exceptions such as Halo: Evolutions.
But for the most part, usage of extreme profanity is a rare occurrence within the Halo franchise.

I would like to inquire whether you would want more frequent and extreme usage of cure words? If so, why exactly would you want that? Personally, I would not mind if Halo 4 and future Halo titles used more profanities. It might increase the drama of a certain situation if use relevantly. But I wouldn’t want to hear any profanity used excessively because that would -Yoink!- the impact of its usage.

Of course, I have not really been bothered by the lack of swearing with previous Halo game, books and other pieces of Halo related products. Well, there is one instance, though. But my point is that I don’t think it would hurt Halo 4 and future Halo titles to use certain cusses to increase the drama/reality of a certain scenario.

So what are your thoughts on this?

Spoilers…

Only Sergeant Johnson swears…

and he’s dead…

and his killer is returning…

They could add some for extra realism, but not too frequently.

“Relax. I’d rather not piss this thing off.” - John-117

The Chief can potentially do so. There’s also the possibly of newly introduced characters within Halo 4.

Wow, this again? Halo does not need excessive cuss words to sound “mature.” A real mature person would handle things with action not with words. Halo: Reach and Halo 3 had a good script and had enough drama without the use of cuss words. It all about the voice actors really. Although, I have to admit… that ODST clip, but aside from that there is no need for such action. This swearing to sound old thing with kids these days really annoys me. You need intellect not foul language to sound mature.

Depends what you mean by swearing like if every once in awhile if something bad happens then the average -Yoink- or whatever is good but saints row swearing and talk of YOINKING! is way way way to much for halo

I would like Halo to have stronger swear words. And use them a lot more often. It’s strange that you have these Marines that are getting shot at, and killing things. And you never hear them drop the F-Bomb. Also I wish Halo acted like a M-rated game. I’m sick of it being a T-rated game. At times it seems like it’s a E-rated game.

LOL

anyways, yeah when i first played that mission inodst i was taken back by mickey’s lack of swearing. i think it should be used in campaign only during rare momentous occasions

I don’t think the main characters should swear just because it doesn’t fit; it would most likely sound awkward and out of place. I would be dumbfounded if MC said -Yoink- or any other cuss word for that matter.

Marines, ODSTs etc… should use strong language though, scarcely of course. Now that this is being discussed, I’d just like to say that I have no idea why Emile didn’t swear at any point in the game, given his attitude/personality. Sadly, I doubt 343i will increase strong language in Halo (if it’s even present). This forum censors cuss words after all, what a shame.

In my opinion, it’s corny (and a bit pathetic) to be over the age 16 and being genuinely SCARED to swear. In all honesty, you should be smacked repeatedly in the face if you say the words “darn” or “fudge” with 14 years of age or more. They’re just words used to emphasize a situation (and to offend others, which is necessary from time to time). /unrelated

I know the word -Yoink- has been used alot in the in the first trilogy.

It needs curse words to help make it seem more realistic.

I highly doubt you’re not going to swear at all when you’re pinned down under heavy fire. Or when you’re shooting at someone. Same thing with your friends, and comrades are dying around you.

For Halo the Chief doesn’t have to swear. But the regular characters like Marines should when they’re getting shot at, or shooting at the enemy. And also when their comrades are dying around them.

As long as it doesn’t end up like Killzone 2. Every 2 seconds I hear -Yoink-, and -Yoink-.

It can be like Call of Duty. It has heavy swearing, but it’s not as often as Killzone 2.

Unless you count the Treyarch games lol

I say no cussing (at least minimal) because my parents wouldn’t let me get it. And I’m 16 too…go figure lol

How many threads do we need asking about swearing?
More Bad Words

> > Anyone want chief to say Yoink!?

> Halo was created by a company who’s forums has a word filter that replaces your swear words with the world “Blam”, and when they swear in their videos, there’s a Model T horn covering the words, and now Halo is being controlled by a company who’s forums has a world filter which replaces words with “yoink”, do you really think they’re going to stick swearing into the game? I don’t.

John Spartan you are fined one credit

That’s what I’ve said about this subject in every thread that’s been made on the subject.

In my opinion,

Whenever you are near some Marine AI’s I think that a minimal and on a not to frequent basis, swearing is fine. It isn’t a direct dialogue and the player can even walk/run away from the area to avoid the verbals.

Marine’s in combat also have their unique personalities throughout the Halo games, it’s what makes them funny and enjoyable to watch/ fight alongside. One of these personalities happens to be the ‘scared out of the pants’ marine who may yes, swear from time to time. It’s up to 343 if they want to keep this certain comedy value in the game and also the typical marine’s we know and love.

Are you guys -Yoinking!- serious, who gives a -Yoink-?

i was actually a little disturbed by the amount of swearing in Evolutions. im fine with “a”, “b”, and others. and maybe one “f”, but the amount of f-bombs in Evolutions was un-necessary.
