Allow me to preface by acknowledging that this is an absolute nitpick.
Tiny lights on weapons and armor have no bearing on gameplay, and thus shouldn’t be worth debating. But I always loved how so many of the human assets in the original Bungie games had tiny lights, be it shield emitters on Mjolnir armor, or glowing weapon sights on the shotgun, or just green and red lights on the sides of the Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle, respectively. I always appreciated this attention to detail because it made the weapons and armor feel electronic, like there was some hidden technology that made the gear work the way it did in the fiction. Again, it was only a tiny detail, yet a big part of my love for Halo was the little details like that. 343 seems to have completely abandoned this design choice in all of their games, and I find myself nostalgic for those little glowing lights.
Again, this is an absolute nitpick, and I acknowledge that. But I’d love it if 343 put that kind of care and detail into their 3D models.
It seems that despite telling everyone they were going back to Halo’s roots, 343i have a natural tendancy ignore the traits that make Halo’s designs stand out. The subtle lights are a great example of “a little goes a long way”. It wouldn’t take much to add them back onto the weapons at least. Hopefully they fix this before release.
Because they don’t care about going back to the original tone of Halo CE at all. They are all talk and no action.

In all honesty, I think at least some of them probably do want to please the fans. They might actually have intended to go back to the original tone of Halo CE or the Bungie’s original Halo Trilogy as a whole, but they don’t seem to comprehend what that entails. They miss all the nuances and details that make Halo Halo. This is one of thousands of examples of what 343i are missing, why their games (including what we’ve seen of Infinite) lack that traditional Halo charm.

Indeed.
Some major issues I have are:
No blood like Halo CE.
Removing Halo classic weapons
No indication of the Flood making a return
Free to Play model for multiplayer (Was never a thing for Halo as Halo has always been a premium and high quality product).
Grapple Shot does not feel like Halo whatsoever.
This just shows that no. They don’t care about reverting back to a more Halo CE tone/atmosphere at all. It’s just all talk.
I can appreciate why you thought the tiny lights were neat, but I actually thought they were kinda silly. When I first noticed them, I thought, what if a Spartan needs to be stealthy and sneak around in the dark or something? They might not want lights coming out of their armor in a situation like that. So I don’t mind that they’re gone.
Also, when Halo 4 added helmets with “light visors” (think Vanguard or Halo 5 Hellcat), I wasn’t a big fan of that either, because I’d prefer to show off the visor colors that I unlocked. But that’s just my own opinion.

Stealth?
What about the Halo: Reach, Halo 5 Spartans with bright coloured armour lol.
Or the fact that Halo games have little to no stealth mechanics.
Granted if 343 were to add more stealth mechanics I would not be against it. But your comment makes no sense due to the above I just mentioned.

I was thinking, in darkness, where color can’t be seen, because it’s dark. But anyway, I’m ok with the option to have brightly colored armor because it’s just an option. It’s fun when you can color your Spartan in stealthy colors like black and green, or bright colors like lime green and hot pink, depending on how you feel. On the other hand, the tiny armor lights in question can’t be turned on or off.

This is a lot like saying they shouldn’t have added the detail where certain vehicles have “no step” written on them because we can actually step on them during gameplay. We’re not talking about gameplay mechanics, here.

I can’t disagree with you on your point about stealth, although I would counter by pointing out Halo’s emphasis on active camo and smart positioning when it comes to stealth operations. I can’t think of any instance, in gameplay or in the fiction, where anyone’s position was given away because of shield emitters or the lights on their weapon.
On Halo 4/5’s white light “visors,” you and I are in absolute agreement.
I used to play a lot H5 and now im trying to pass the LASO campaign of H3 and yeah i noticed the change with those lights, but really looking at it from a more military point of view, what advantage does it give you to have lights on a suit or weapon? In fact I consider it better that it does not have those lights that reveal your position, but on the other hand they look more futuristic. Seeing replies from the waypoint moderators they do not show much interest in combining the lore with the gameplay, in fact they have said that we do not focus on that, but of course, they do not stop putting out comics and books increasing the lore, if they do not want to put it in video games they should at least do it in cinematics.

Nah that stuff was always ugly, took away aesthetic from the gun and made it look completely unnecessary.

this thread is old and all, but I think it has to do with 343i trying to stay away from Bungie’s “style.” This seems to be the reason why the art was so drastically changed, and the overall feel. 343i tried so hard to make themselves not Bungie so they lose focus on other things. The whole “halo four weapon drops random” thing showed exactly that.

True. But if I was a Spartan with those lights on my armor, then I’d at least put some duct tape over them.

I wasn’t saying anything like that ever actually happened, of course.

You know the Waypoint moderators don’t actually work for 343
