Um this may be a noobish question but I’ve been playing Halo for about 5-6 years now and it has only just started to make me wonder with all the changes going on I.E Bungie releasing control to 343I
when naming the Monitor Orb we all know and love (Hate for some :P) 343 Guilty Spark
It has made me wonder
- Did Bungie purposely name him this to give reference to 343I?
- Did they want to hint in a very subtle way that they were going to release control
Or - was it by pure Coincidence that the Monitor was named quite similar to the company now in control of Halo

343 Industries was a company founded in 2007 with the express purpose of taking control of the Halo franchise.

Yeah what Jebus said. 343 Guilty Spark the character existed from the very start of Halo and 343 Industries the game studio has only been around for a few years named after that character.
If you’re wondering where the number 343 came from… it came from Bungies fascination with the number 7. Here are the 3 Halo monitors that we know by name;
77 = 049 Abject Testament (Halo CEA)
777 = 343 Guilty Spark (Halo 1)
7777 = 2401 Penitent Tangent (Halo 2)
Yup, Installation 04 had 7^3, installation 5 was 7^4
So from this;
Installation 1: 7^0 = 01
Installation 2: 7^1 = 07
Installation 3: 7^2 = 049 Adject Testament
Installation 4: 7^3 = 343 Guilty Spark
Installation 5: 7^4 = 2401 Penitent Tangent
Installation 6: 7^5 = 16807
Installation 7: 7^6 = 117649

Yeah you’re right, it’s just I recently thought about it and tbh I actually thought 343I was around a lot longer than bungie like they just worked on like hardly any of the mainstream games you see today I never knew it was founded only recently. as you can probably tell I didn’t really pay attention to some of the stuff involving dates for the companies but in future I will be sure to check!
