Maybe your team was never skilled. I’ve never seen CTF as an unfair gametype and in no way difficult unless the other team was much more coordinated than yours.

That’s because CE was a great game while Reach was mediocre at best.
Well, to be fair: You couldn’t flag juggle in Reach, making you move at the pace of a dying tortoise while everyone else was flying around with Evade and Sprint.

I don’t think I need to prove that CTF should appeal to people not running as a team.

But CE and Reach share some gameplay mechanics (Fall damage, non-regenerating health, pistol that didn’t suck), therefore, CE was terrible.
Besides, I don’t remember Halo 3 CTF games being that enjoyable either.

Objective gametypes require much more Team work than Slayer to actually win the game. It will always be difficult to win an objective gametype without running with a team.

I’m making fun of the Halo 4 whiners, in case you didn’t catch on. For some reason, a lot of people on this site believe that if Halo 4 retains ANYTHING from Reach, then it will immediately be the worst game ever.
I wouldn’t say that any objective variant was too hard.
If you go in alone, then chances are that you will lose the match if you were teamed against a group that was familiar with how they played together.
Also, you have to take into consideration that the people on your team were probably there just for the kills.
Get a team of friends together, and try to tackle these variants again.

You have a good point. but it does’t need to be nearly as hard.
Halo ce ctf was simple, thus making it funner, less frustrating, and yes less skill gaped: as you have less details to focus on as you play. But a game does not need a huge skill gap, the gap is simply defined by the type of game it is.
CTF should be fun, perhaps there should be additional game types of more skill requirements.
I think OP is right to an extent. CTF was fun it the other Halo games, but Reach’s never really took off. I think it’s mostly because everyone else can sprint or use other AA’s, whereas you’re stuck with the flag moving very slowly. They need to either let you sprint with the flag (but maybe a little slower), or just increase the movement speed with the flag.

Hate to be that CE-purist a-hole (although I thought CTF worked better in H2/H3), but I wouldn’t say CTF in Reach has a higher skill gap. The default movement settings just make it nearly impossible to cap a flag against a semi-competent team. It was literally just pushing the flag 10 meters, then dying, then pushing the flag 10 meters, then dying, over and over again until you capped the flag. It took more effort than skill.
In fact, CTF is where teams worth their salt show it off.
Here’s what happened, most maps are terrible, but we’ll ignore that lengthy piece for now. People complain about flag holding being too slow, well- that’s true, flag tossing is much better. Of course some -Yoink!-’s are going to come in and say YER SUPPOSE TA PROTEK YER FLAG CARRIYER.
Well, given that Reach has some stupid slow kill times for most of the weapons, how exactly am I supposed to protect him when even if I’m putting in several shots into my opponent they can still get plenty of shots in? It’s a fine balance. Flag games tend to be lengthy because of the fact that people don’t play it right, and you need to secure your flag far ahead of time instead of protecting the carrier as they go, very few times is a cap secured uninterrupted, especially when you can sprint back into the action.
Overall, flag tossing should be universally allowed in Halo 4. It’s a very small skill, but it’s still an extra dimension to flag games, and to be able to do a good flag toss run in an intense situation is actually sometimes difficult, I’ve won games because somebody fumbled it. Also, I like the trade off between faster speed or running with it and them not knowing where I am.
