CTF ruined?

It didn’t occur to me at first but there’s more than sniper spam in CTF. After doing the daily yesterday “win 9 CTF games” me and my friend discovered that this CTF sucks.

The good:
-Flagnum!

The bad:
-8 second respawns… wtf?
-betrayals

I try to deliver the flag but my team members betray me and walk the final foot to steal my 100 points. I end up with 2 kills/12 deaths and only one flag delivered when it should be 3.

3 second respawn is necessary, 5 sec is understandable, 8 sec is downright bs. The other team got hold of some power weapons and wiped my team… while we were respawning forever, the other team got their flag 3/4 across the map. We then spawn as far away as possible. The flag is already gone, there was no way we could’ve defended it.

Now I’m a pro at capturing flags and I loved CTF but this is just sad. The betrayals really ruin it… but that’s the community, not 343. Halo 4’s biggest issue is this -Yoink!- community. No respect for the REAL flagrunners.

The respawns are redicolous most definetly. Way too long. And if someone even touches me once while I have the flag I’ll give em a whack with it. Get your own damn flag and points. Then those people dont even play defense!

Huh, never though about team killing for my own defense. Thanks for the tip.

I half understand, but am half annoyed by automatic flag pick-up. I was the last line of defense against a capture in a match earlier tonight, standing right in the blue base and trying to take out the flag carrier and his escort before the capture. I probably wasn’t going to take them both out, but I’ll never know because I accidentally backed into their flag and during the time the game transitioned me to carrier, they got the last few shots in on me and I died.

This was obviously done to streamline situations where there were a lot of dropped weapons around a flag and you’d go through a four second panic picking up a plasma pistol and an AR when all you really wanted to do was grab that freakin’ flag. It’s good in that respect, but we’ve traded that inconvenience for one that can cause a different kind of problem.

It really depends on who you play with. Yes there are a number of griefers, and plain old fashion cheats, and those who exploit the maps bad designs.

But there are also a lot of players who simply want to play properly. And to be fair the new style with the flagnum is fantastic.

There needs to be some single flag, offense/defense matches.

I quite like it, for me I think the thing that needs to change is flag resets. 30 seconds is too long I think, bad teams are given time to just run at the flag, auto pick up, die and reset the timer.
I believe the mode would benefit from either a reduced reset time or bringing back resetting by standing in close proximity to the flag.
Just my thoughts on it, although it is enjoyable as it is.

10 second respawn
15 second flag despawn

Make it happen.

As for flag auto-pickup.

I understand why some people don’t like it, but, I think the pros outweigh the cons.

Makes pickup a lot less frustrating especially in when there’s weapons, warthogs and whatever else close by.

Overtime players will learn not to go near it until they specifically want to pick it up.

Being able to pick up and drop the flag has been in Halo forever, but frankly I prefer the Quake autopickup/can’t drop it model of CTF.

> 10 second respawn
> 15 second flag despawn

No way to the first one, second one very much yes.

Really, that what you prefer? The “Quake style” CTF.

WELL GUESS WHAT, GO PLAY QUAKE THEN!!!1

This ctf mode is terrible, this is not how Halo CTF is played.

terrible terrible terrible

If you got 2 kills you shouldn’t be complaining. To be quite honest I’m not even sure how you managed to go over there and grab the flag all these times if you only got two kills. If your getting betrayed put together a team of 5 people and search together. Hopefully then you won’t get that annoying -Yoink!- who shoots his team for fun.

Think it needs that youre own flag needs to be at base to capture it. And remove that it takes 35 sec to get flag back to base its just way too long make it like a bar that goes down faster if you have more ppl trying to get it back.

You realize if you click X in the respawn screen it brings the timer down to 3 seconds right I do it all the time?

lets see needing 5 people shouldn’t be a requirement for normal brain functions, no team mates, greedy lil kids, having to one many army against 5 others and vehicles… seems you haven’t been on ctf yet.

the respawn is 5 seconds. Not once have i played CTF and i’ve waited 8 seconds to respawn. Unless i have accidently betrayed a team mate somehow.

Competitively, this variant of flag is awful. Once you grab the flag, your team is a man down. There are no more distraction pulls since dropping the flag isn’t an option.

How is your team a man down? The guy carrying the flag has a gun and a 1sk melee.

The only changes I’d like to see in CTF are the flag return mechanic, it is EXCEEDINGLY too hard to prevent the entire enemy team from just touching the flag for 35 seconds, it should be 35 sec base respawn time and the time is decreased based on how many team mates are near the flag. Me and my friends have exploited this so bad, such as on Ragnarok, one guy will get to enemy base and man-cannon w flag, then we all just take turns touching and and inching a bit closer til we can finally cap it, its hilarious since no matter what they can’t stop 5 of us rushing their flag at once and touching it.

I hate CTF anyway! Long Live Slayer! And King of the Hill! And Flood! And all the things except for CTF!

Flame war BEGIN! (Not on purpose)

He has a gun that is laughably inaccurate, and avoiding the flag melee isn’t too hard since he has a giant waypoint over his head. Halo 4 has a load of wide open maps on which the Magnum just doesn’t do much. Even on tighter maps like Adrift, the Magnum isn’t really too useful.
