CTF - Perfection or as close as it gets

So im not one to normally enthuse about particular modes or how people should play a game. However in this case, I think its a must. Capture the Flag mode in H4 is absolutely stellar. Its THEE BEST ctf mode I have ever played, and Ive played a whole plethora of similar modes.

Plus points of CTF;

Five vs Five teams ; Just the right amount of players to allow for sneaky tactics, but still give a team considerable firepower to bear on a target/s attempting sneaking.

Objective gaming; Gives a team something to strive for other than just K/D ratio, and allows those who might not be such a good shot a mode where they can still compete and be a valuable member of the team ( flag driver etc ).

Vehicular tactics; With a few vehicles CTF mode is lightning raid time. Taking two spartans and making a decisive attack with a 'goose nicking the flag for a win while the enemy team is plinking away at trying to get your flag means battles are fast and decisive unless a team pulls together and plays as a “team”.

Flag combat; With the addition of a magnum pistol to the flag carrier, you are no longer an easy target. Doesnt sound like much? The magnum can fire off a full clip helluva fast and take out a spartan pronto at short range. Combined with a “power punch” from holding the flag (melee damage increase), flag carriers are a deadly force in CQB. To compensate no sprinting or AA are usable, meaning you most likely will need guards for the trip back to base for longer range attackers.

Map design; CTF modes feature some of the best map layouts, and maps that previously didnt seem like they made sense on other modes now shine. The overall layouts of maps are much more balanced once you add in objectives.

So to sum it all up for those that want a TLDR version; Halo 4 CTF - Where have you been all my gaming life! Come on in, play as a team, and have a great time!

I honestly think all the main objective types were done exceptionally well this time around. The most fun I’ve had with this game has been in CTF, KOTH and Oddball.

Agree

Agreed, in past Halos I’ve usually just stuck to slayer but in Halo 4 I’ve really taken a liking to the objective game types.

Just ran a background check: You haven’t played any other Halo games apart from Halo 4.

Lol wrong. Played every original Halo game with the MC in it. Ive had several gamertags over the years, some for PC some for 360. I was one of the few people who bought H2 for a PC running Vista. Waypoint only has stats for a handful of H3 games on this profile, combined with my current H4 playtime.

I don’t believe that can be entirely accurate sir. I never played online in CE or Halo 2 but that doesn’t mean I didn’t do lan parties for fun. Think before you judge.

You have no records to support this. Your gamer-tag has never been on Reach or Halo 3/2.

who are you to deem him a liar. You can go and check my backround. I don’t have CE or Halo 2 but I played them both avidly until the next titles. Try a little harder to think in round 3 before scrutinizing this man on his Halo records.

I also agree with the OP. This is the most fun I’ve had playing matchmaking CTF. Usually I would just get pissed trying to knee-crawl across the map when idiot teammates would die. But not anymore.

Indeed, almost all of my H3 gametime was lan play as a number of my friends simply did not have access to the internet at the time. My H2 playtime is on PC, and again most of that was lan play for the same reason.

And since Ive been gaming since the very early 80’s I have nearly three decades worth of collective gaming experience I feel I have no need to advertise my ability nor my statistics on a website, nor do I even really care about them (stats).

Remember that big thread saying that “CTF is ruined” before launch, where everybody in it claimed that, even though they hadn’t played any amount of the game (let alone the gametype) whatsoever (and even with one guy who’d demoed CTF confirming that it was fun), they could tell it was terrible because they’re such EXPERTS at all things CTF?

Where are you now?

Played H3 on this gamer tag as per my gamerscore, you obviously didnt look hard enough. And since when was this a debate on my playtime? It is not, its a thread about how good the current CTF mode is for objective playstyles.

As per the original purpose of the thread I do find objective modes more fun to play but I have been sticking to slayer mainly because I seem to have a difficult time finding matches in objective that don’t plant me in the very end of game.

Indeed. CTF’s steady high population has ultimately proven the whiners wrong.

I don’t feel vulnerable or in dire need of protecting while holding the flag. I frequently make sacrificial rushes towards a downed enemy flag for the sole purpose of resetting the timer. It’s a very team-driven game now, instead of the flag-juggling gimmick-ridden CTF variants of games past.

Ive been the same with H4 until I got a few good games last night of CTF. Mainly stuck to BTB slayer as its the mode Im most familiar with in online FPS games. I do have a number of years playing Bf2 and a fair bit of play time for 2142 under my belt so objective gaming is not new to me. But in previous CTF modes for HALO header titles Ive never really “got in to” them, until now. I feel like the current CTF ruleset and gamestyle to be excellent and highly deserving of praise.

Its one of the few things I feel 343 did well in Halo 4.

Right here buddy. And our overall points still stand. And that was that the amount of strategies are lessened. I’m not going to start that up again because most of you didn’t understand what we were trying to say.
That being said, CTF isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
