CTF has been ruined since Halo 2...

IMO CTF has been ruined since H2 launched. From then on they removed the ability to drive with the flag which was standard in CE. Being able to drive with the flag empowered the individual and made CTF a fast paced game. H4 is continuing this poor decision made in h2 and so I don’t understand why 343 is seeking to “promote teamwork in CTF”, it wont happen pure and simple. Asking for teammate cooperation while playing solo on XBL is nothing short of insane and often leads to CTF rarely being chosen and being a long drawn out boredom fest. I search btb solo since I dont have much time to play but still enjoy games with lots of people. CTF used to be my favorite gametype in CE but after h2 launched it was ruined.

In H4 they have removed the foolish feature of slowing the flag runner down and him being defenseless but have made it worse by putting a huge waypoint over his head for the enemy. Essentially they went 2 steps forward and 2 steps back. Flag will continue to be a slow drawn out boring game and causing TS to be the most chosen BTB game.

Some may say the waypoint, the slowing down, the inability to drive promotes team work but that is simply not true when searching with randoms becuase

  1. most people dont have mics
  2. many people dont care to play the objective
  3. if the base defenders kill your only driver then you are pretty much stuck since as soon as you grab the flag, the people you just killed will respawn and quickly track you down.

Finally gimping the flag carrier really removes the immersion of the experience. So i am a super soldier but cant drive with 1 hand? If anyone has ever played real life CTF in paintball they should realize that the flag carriers don’t need to be weakened and it plays just fine.

TLDR: CTF should revert to how it was in CE and allow flag carriers to drive, move normal speed, BUT also be able to use their weapons (maybe swap out one of your 2 weapons). It will speed up CTF and make it more fun since one man can make a difference and caps can be made in seconds not just a slow march of death, move 2 feet death and repeat.

I dont understand your position

Halo 2 was all about teamwork and everybody had a mic plugged in. I long for the day that I play a Halo game where everybody has a mic again.

I don’t agree with the changes, but it’s important to see it as a new gametype. Some have critiqued it much more as CTF + VIP. I’m sure we’ll see some classic settings make a comeback down the road. And by classic, I mean like after CE, which was great.

Its not a new gametype.

Classic IS CE. H2 made some improvements with movement speed but thats about it.

Most people dont have mics like in H2, the game should focus on the individual again like in CE

Being able to jump back in your banshee with the flag on death island was stupid.

I’d saying leaving your base undefended was even more stupid. Your team got punished since no one was defending your base. Id also say walking with a big arrow over your head instead of leaving in the vehicle you came in or stealing an enemies base is also more stupid

It should be about the TEAM working together not having one guy be able to do everything on his own.

I disagree, I personally think Halo 2 had the best CTF gametype, coupled with the best maps for CTF.

  • without sprint Halo 4 CTF is still subject to slow flag carriers

Another thread on this? Don’t we already have one…

Driving with the flag always struck me as stupid, because an enemy could waltz into your base (I agree that the team failed to defend the base, and that this should put them at a disadvantage), grab your flag, hop into a ghost or banshee that spawns there and, if they were halfway decent, be near-unopposed. Some team element of that sort is necessary because on many BTB maps, the flag was as good as captured as soon as the carrier jumped in a vehicle.

lol not everyone has mics or the desire to play the objective. many are just fine going for kills in objective. With no rank behind objective either then people care even less about plugging mics in or helping flag carriers

this is ridiculous halo pc had it right if ur team was bad then you should get beat
Oh and in the NBA when Lebron played game 6 against the Celtics your argument is stupid IF YOU HAVE A GOOD PLAYER HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO BAIL OUT THE TEAM WHY TIE HIM TO THE HIP WITH PEOPLE THAT RUIN THE GAME

If they just go for kills they shouldn’t be playing an objective game.
You then assume just because there is no rank people don’t want to try and win. That’s really funny since Halo:CE had no ranks and people play to win and don’t care about K/D.

  1. your team should have anti vehicle weapons at the ready or be ready to team fire on an escaping vehicle

  2. team should have moved vehicles away from the base…that’s called strategy and thinking ahead.

3)there are a bunch of players between your base and the enemies. You have plenty of chances of killing the vehicle via PPs & stickies (all of which you can now spawn with)

  1. your vehicles should already be on the field doing work instead of idly sitting at your base. An enemy useing them to escape is punishment for not using your equipment

You cant ignore that CTF is broken in BTB without this feature. How many people quit out as soon as an enemy caps 1 flag? or refuses to play a full party who has mics so they dashboard before the game even loads.

The point is the individual isnt given enough power in ctf and since the majority of players search as individuals the game should reflect that by going back to its roots.

IF THEY JUST GO FOR KILLS THEY SHOULDN’T BE PLAYING AN OBJECTIVE GAME – go ahead and tell them that there almost nothing you can do to stop it, you going to ban their XBL? Since you can’t really stop this for the most part let good players help the team don’t nerf them

absolutely in all halo games except CE the individual was nerfed, you do know that even if the individual drives away with a flag you can do the same thing at his base then its a war to see who can get the flag carrier first and it is way batter try playing some CE on PC still tons of servers

no

The all caps, grammar, and one post make me think you’re trolling. I’m really sorry about saying that if you aren’t, but it just happens too often for me to be sure anymore.

I disagree, though. Halo has always been about team effort, more so than many other shooters, and CTF is highly team-based. One very good player might be able to carry a team on his own in a game of slayer, but it shouldn’t happen in CTF. If a player’s team is worse at coordinating or overall combat skill, they should lose. It’s as simple as that.

Welcome to Waypoint.

Its not always a choice to pic if you want to play objective games. look at reach btb as an Example.

The point of rank is to keep all the players that dont care about winning together and the players who do care about winning together. That way you get try hard vs tryhard and playing4lols VS playing4lols.

People get the matches they want and people who want ot win dont have to deal with teammates who spend the entire game riding around on the mongoose
