The way CTF plays was drastically changed for Halo 4; some people like it, some people hate it. Whatever your side is, there is one mechanic that is completely broken in CTF; the reset timer and the return timer.
As it stand now, if you die before you manage to complete the return timer, then the reset timer reverts back to where it was before you started your attempt at returning the flag.
I’ll give an example to make myself more clear.
Flag reset timer is 20 seconds
Flag return timer is 10 seconds.
Blue player takes the flag and is killed by the Red player.
The flag is dropped and the Reset Timer starts counting down from 20.
Red player makes it to the flag and stand on it at 17 seconds left and starts Return Timer
Return Timer starts count down from 10…but wait the player dies when there are only 3 seconds left of the return timer.
You would think the reset timer would then show 10 seconds left, as 7 seconds have passed while you were defending it…but no.
For whatever reason, they decided that the timers don’t talk to each other.
What makes this really interesting is if people try and strafe on top of the flag. If you are constantly leaving the return area, you are basically doing nothing since the second you initiate the return timer, you are stopping the reset timer.
This methodology does not work, especially in a game with instant respawn and instant flag pick up options.
Can we please get a fix for this? There is no reason the defense should be punished like that.
