CTF defense is too easy

I honestly don’t remember the last time that a CTF game was completed before time ran out. It seems like every game goes to time, and that it’s only a narrow 1-0 win or loss. I feel like this is because defence it too easy. Flag returns are too fast, and only having to pull flag to stop a cap is huge. Halo 4 did a lot wrong, but other than not being able drop the flag its CTF was perfect. Timers on flag returns make it so one person running in and pulling a flag is possible. Even if it was a suicide run. You team could come in after you died and you would still have accomplished something. The current setup basically requires a team communicating. Solo players are once again left in the dust, and games full of solo people become standoffs of people playing defence with no one pushing flag at all. Being able to cap without your flag encourages late game comebacks. If one team is up with 2 minutes left they don’t have to play offense at all, because of how easy it is to return the flag. The changes that 343i made to CTF in this game have made it a chore to play, where in past games it was always my favorite gametype. As someone who solo queues a lot of the time it so obviously favors team play. I’m not saying that teamplay is bad. But basically requiring it to play CTF makes it so that in BTB there is only one gametype that solo queue people can actually enjoy. Strongholds is the exact same thing.

You should watch HSC most of these games end within 4 min or less.

I don’t care about HCS. I care about what I experience when I play the game, and what I experience is a getype that more often than not ends at time because defense is too easy, and its not in one teams best interest to try and cap after they get one.

What you just described is what the problem with Halo 5 really is. Not everyone is a pro player, and not everyone wants to take the game that seriously. By making the game so that it basically only caters to the competitive community they have effectively made it impossible for casual solo players to have any fun.

well you were saying you never see a game hardly ever get finished before time runs out, someone was merely giving you an EXAMPLE of this. you dont have to be a pro to capture all 3 flags, im no pro and id say it happens about half of the time. that being said id rather have a close 1-0 win or 3-2 win than just a 3-0 slaughter. you dont have to be pro to capture all 3 flags.

i see no difference between defense on halo 5 and in other halos. how do you see its different? why do you think its easier to defend now than before?

camping the flag on defense has always been a thing, and its always been “easy” to defend. thats kind of the point, its hard to capture but easy to just sit back and defend. doesnt seem to be any different now…

if youre playing solo then this is your problem. not that its too easy to defend but that it can be really hard to break down a setup on CTF without communication from a team. just my opinion, and not always the case.

the one place i think people camp too much on their flag is BTB. for example it seems like on Basin the strategy for most teams is to simply crouch-camp in the base with the shotgun. most people bring in the mongoose too and just sit there the whole game. because of the large number of players it promotes camping the flag and makes defense really easy (especially on basin) soi can relate to you there at least. i just think its always been really hard to capture the flag in 4v4 and BTB. it shouldnt be easier or every game would end really quickly. i personally think its a good balance.

if you really think its too easy to defend how would you improve it? are you here to just complain or do you have any suggestions? that might help others understand what the problem is exactly…

I’d rather have a close 3-2 game that has a lot of back and forth than what is in the game now. From my experience, and this is in BTB not small scale, one team gets one cap and then plays pure defense the entire game. Because teams can return the flag in a couple of seconds by having a couple of people stand on it it discourages pulling the flag out if your team isn’t there. No other Halo game has been like is. In Halo 3 the return time was a lot longer, even if you had people stand on it. Halo 4 had a set timer. Both of these systems allowed for a single person to pull the flag, and create opportunities for a team.

Because Halo 5’s system requires teamwork it alienates solo players. No longer is one person able to start a run, and instead one person is able to end it.

I did say how they could improve it. Set timers on flag returns, like in Halo 4, and the ability to cap even if your flag is away would go a long way in making it better. Also, placing the flag in places that don’t allow for as much camping would help. Every BTB flag spawn point is in an enclosed room, and easily campable by people with shotguns or scattershots.

EDIT: You should be punished as a team if your flag gets out. It should be hard to defend it, not easy.

I can see defense being too easy for a party of 4 using voice chat, but from personal experience I have to say, people are not too good with priorities in randoms. I’ve lost a lot of matches because everyone abandoned the flag immediately, leaving me open to an easy rush.
