It would have been nice to have it in-game, but if you give it some thought you’ll see that it is really not a big deal.
Let’s examine the use cases that you would like to know somebody’s skill ranking:
Your friends. Just go to Halo waypoint and you should be able to see it easily (even easier than in game)
Player in your lobby. On first thought this is an important use case that requires CSR in game.
But on second thought… Since the matchmaking is matching players with similar skills against each other, you know that the other players will have similar CSR as you
That’s the use cases I can think of. If you have other valid ones I have not thought of, speak up so we can discuss.
Nobody wants to load Waypoint every time they want to see their rank. it’s just an excuse to try and get more people to use the app and come to this website, despite it being awful from a performance standpoint.
I just like seeing where i stand against other people and being able to have easy access to it. If people really don’t care about their rank then why would they care if it was visible?

I must be minority then. When I was playing games I have a laptop by my side and my cell phone in my hand while I am between games. I would actually prefer to go to waypoint and check out the after-action report of the previous game I just played.

Next thing you know the stat pages will be littered with Ads.

I assume by “other people” you are mostly concerned about the players in your lobby. As I said earlier, they have similar CSRs as you so whether or not you know their exact number will not give you much extra information.

but visual to who? the 5% of players that use way point or even know it exists? this wont help keeps competitive anymore than an invisible rank.
OK, I just thought about a use case that in-game CSR would be nice.
Let’s say that you are Halo god and you are at level 50. Your friends at level 10 ask you to play with them. In this case the lobby probably will be filled with players with wider CSR differentials, and knowing where each one is at would be useful.
On a related note: it would be interesting to see how they solve the “party” matchmaking problem.

By other people I mean people opposed to the idea. There is no valid reason not to have visible ranking. And being able to track people’s ranks in lobby is extremely convenient versus using the slow Waypoint apps on various devices.

If you can have ennough time to go onto waypoint to complain you have enough time to check your rank.

No, it might be visible through a small window that opens your stats on waypoint without loading the game. Some people are so unwelcoming these days. 343 is providing a 1-50 (OMG HOW CAN YOU GUYS NOT BE HAPPY) similar skill system that will match you up with players who match your skill. At the end of the day, (Or maybe even during the day if they add the screen that I mentioned earlier) you will know how you did, and can attempt to do even better.

Okay, really? So I’m going to jump out of my game to go check the rank of all the players in the game I just left?

No, we’ll be busy playing Halo 4. And I’ve never understood why negative criticism has to be outright complaining. Why are we not allowed to voice our opinion on something we really want in the game?
I don’t see the problem here. Instead of having Social/Ranked every playlist in Halo 4 will have a skill based ranking, your stats and skill will be tracked and players will be matched accordingly. Sure you might not be able to see it in game but that is a minor inconvenience in my opinion seeing as its viewable on Waypoint. This should be good news for everyone.

There is no doubt on the grander scale everybody who wants visible rankings are thrilled about this. However, some people feel that not having it in-game makes it less convenient and useful.
There are some valid arguments here. However, in general I think most of us agree on the “no big deal” assessment
Don’t forget waypoint will be getting an overhaul very soon in order to link up with halo 4 stats. So any criticism towards waypoint right now is somewhat invalid
