CSR makes no sense

With the new update we’re now able to see our CSR on a progression bar (I’m at Gold 5 currently) and if you look next to the bar there is a little green chevron that indicates positive progression. However even if players lose a match it still says it goes up I’ve even looked at my oponents tat go negatove and their CSR is listed as going up. Now early tonight I managed to get into Gold 6 and then I promptly lost the next 3 matches and I’m at 50% on my Gold 5 progress bar which would be fine buuuuut it still says I’m positively progressing my CSR. How does that work ?! I lost basically a full CSR rank over the course of 3 matches (Counting the 25% I had for Gold 6 and the 50% lost from Gold 5) but I’m still positively affecting it ?! Please someone explain how this “Skill rating” works it would be greatly appreciated

You can lose a match but still do better than you were previously doing.

None of the decisions made for this game make sense.

343 relied on the Halo namesake for success and blew it, what idiots were calling those shots should be shot out of an airlock as well as the guy who wrote the damn story.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s an error where it mistakenly just shows green chevrons for everyone, but doesn’t actually mean you’re gaining CSR; and if you lost a rank after those 3 games despite it showing green chevrons then that pretty much confirms it. If it didn’t though, do remember that if you’re playing FFA you can potentially go up despite technically ‘losing’.

Since all of the responses to you were pretty much useless (not unusual for this forum), thought I would respond. Yes I am pretty sure its a bug, a visual bug, and I highly doubt that it indicates that you are gaining CSR when you are losing, as someone said. From what I’ve seen, it gives the up arrow every game. And matchmaking these days is sometimes matching me both with and against lower ranked players, so I highly doubt a loss would be gaining CSR. I’m pretty sure I’ve even seen the up arrow when I’ve ranked down a whole rank.

Its clearly a visual bug with the new UI, one of many: I also noticed that when I ranked up in diamond, the text on the popup actually says platinum, which is annoying (this only happens on rank up, if you go into player properties it shows correctly)

I’ll try to be constructive too. I’ve also noticed it and it’s definitely a bug. I’ll often check Halo Carnage on my phone or even better, Halo5arena.com if I want to know my exact CSR number in every playlist. I don’t understand how they can do it in those apps but 343 chooses not to. I would think that for a game so obviously aimed at the competitive community, many of whom are stat and rank obsessed, easy access to that data in real time would be a desirable feature.

There are just a lot of inconsistencies in implementation and hardware glitches that need to be fixed before adding new features that don’t work either. I never have even a short gaming session anymore that does not hang up retrieving data so I have to restart the system to access my REQs or boosts. I don’t play any other games though and I’m sure they all have their share of glitches.

As much as I don’t want to agree, I do. I still enjoy playing it, but man, I wish I knew what went through their minds.

The Halo 3 ranking system was bang on. They need to bring it back.

The way CSR used to work is that oif you made the top 50% of your team it would go up. The opposite for making the bottom half of your team. A win and loss were also calculated meaning that if a person did the worst for their team but won it wouldn’t go down as much as the person who came in last and lost.

I didn’t think my post was non-constructive, but each to their own.

I didn’t mean yours, didn’t even see it to be honest - the previous ones to yours were pretty unhelpful, was talking about those. No offence meant. (As expected, the thread is already descending into people complaining about the ranking system and comparing it to previous games, when the thread is actually about a visual bug. Par for the course on these forums).

Yeah I have to agree.

Brian Reed is the culprit for the piss poor story and immediate removal of Jul Mdama. Bring back Chris Schlerf!!!

Fair enough! And indeed it has turned in to complaints about the ranking system and 343i in general. I won’t disagree that it does seem like a huge oversight on their part though.

Thanks for the input (thanks to everyone even if they weren’t being very constructive) I’ve actually had a bug similar to the one you described where it says I’m in Diamond but it shows the Platinum emblem. At least I can pretend for a moment that I was good enough to get Diamond league xD
