CSR HAS TAKEN ALL THE FUN OUT OF HALO 4

since halo 4 came out in november, ive played nothing else. i loved it. id go to work and all i could think about was getting home and running around in multiplayer. but ever since csr went live, ive not enjoyed a single game. i keep firing up the game hoping that itll have fixed itself and so far it definitely hasnt. this is the way i see it:

i couldnt care less about the convoluted way that each playlist levels up differently.

i dont care what csr level im at nor am i concerned with ranking up.

my problem with csr lies in the use of the ranking system to find peer matches for you in matchmaking.

frankly, i understand that some people want a more competitive gaming experience from halo 4. i get that. the reality is that not everybody is looking for that same kind of experience. some people want to just play and have fun with it, and not take it so seriously. now this is the part where people reading this go, “well why dont you just shut up and play then?” and in response to that all i can say is because its no longer any fun. if the experience is being tailored to be something that is more competitive, then by its very definition one has to become more competitive in order to take part in it. and its not just my imagination, either. every single game ive played since csr went live has been intense to the point of being infuriating. and its not that i dont know how to play halo. i may not be the best player ever, but i do just fine. all i know is how the game feels, and as of now, it no longer feels balanced, and it is no longer any fun to play.

sometimes in an effort to make a thing better, the thing itself morphs into something unrecognizable, and halo 4 mm has become that. its no longer what it was when i bought the game, and with every update, it seems to get further and further away from something i want to play.

maybe im the only one who feels this way, but i seriously doubt that, and frankly if i am i dont even care. this is truly how i feel about the situation and i feel like it needs to be addressed.

either way, until it changes, im effectively done playing halo 4.

Objection! I have noticed ZERO differences with who I’m getting paired with. Since day 1, I have been matched with scrubs using Suppressors on Ragnarok. My highest CSR is 37, so I know I’m not terrible, but I’m still getting matched up with awful players. The game plays exactly the same as it did before CSR; it’s all in your head, and it is not a legitimate reason to stop playing the game.

i respectfully disagree

Here I am having read the thread not knowing what you’re talking about.

Nothing ingame actually changed, people still play like they used to before. There’s no CSR specific playlist that you have to play every second match in order to be able to play online.

Also, introducing a stricter matching system based on skill does make the game more balanced. As it’s no longer headless chickens running around with the SEAL sniper team on the other side, but headless chickens against headless chickens.

If you like being on either side of that team, then kudos to you. I for one am really tired of being a headless chicken to the SEAL team and being the SEAL team to the headless chickens. Which happened before and after the implementation of visible CSR.

The CSR has always been working in the background, it did so for i343 to finetune it.

However it does not affect matchmaking in anyway as the trueskill system is used for matching players, not the CSR. Or atleast that’s how I’ve come to understand it. If I’m wrong, please do provide me with the information and source to it that states otherwise.

Placebo effect, the CSR won’t affect how will the game match you up. The only thing that happened is that the trueskill got reset.

  1. I’m 99% sure that the game still matches you based on the hidden trueskill mechanic and has nothing to do with CSR. Trust me, CSR is incredible broken, and I highly doubt any form of matching system is in place.

  2. I can’t believe you’re actually complaining about playing people who are the same skill as you. It honestly sounds like you’re butthurt from not being able to kill awful players 100% of the time, and that’s a terrible excuse. Get over yourself.

  3. “I respectfully disagree” is not a very good answer. This person above tried to help you, but you did NOT want to hear it. If you’re going to be closed-minded about everything, why post in forums?

> every single game ive played since csr went live has been intense to the point of being infuriating.

I also have this little habit of researching the match history of players who claim things about their matches.

More than half the recent matches I checked had a score difference on 10+ between the teams. Even if I somehow missed most the “intense” matches, it’s not even “every single game”, as you claim, or close to “every match”.

I don’t see how a match you won with 21 more kills than the enemy team can be “intense”.

Then again I don’t know your definition of intense or how you would describe an intense match, but for me an intense match is when the scores are so close that it’s practically impossible to see who’s going to win.

I respectfully disagree with OP. if anything CSR has helped the matchmaking experience and this is coming from a guy who could care less about ranks. One thing I noticed is because true skill was reset, I’ve come across a lot of easy games before I finally get matched up with competition.

This is just whining. I took a couple of months off because of a broken controller that took me a while to get around to fixing. They implemented CSR during that time and I can’t tell any difference in the kind of people I’m facing.

I respectfully disagree, for reasons stated by a bunch of people above this post.

Pure whining. The “trueskill,” which works like garbage in this game, is the same as it was. Thanks for being proof that the “casuals” will find anything thing they can whine about just like the “competitives.”

I’ve not seen a single difference in the game since the CSR update happened. Hell you don’t even know who’s what level unless you take the time to look them up. And as far as the 1-130 rank goes that doesn’t mean yoink either.

I must admit that I attempted to change the way that I played the game when CSR came out, with less emphasis on K/D and more focus on points.

I gave up on that quickly, as I do not feel any sense of accomplishment racking up 41 kills…and 45 deaths…

I agree and disagree. The trueskill system aspect was similar but not the same. Though my following example is from Halo Reach, it still applies. So in Halo Reach I was a 48 in Living Dead winning about 80% of my matches (if I remember correctly off Halo Tracker). I was far from good when I played, but I was far from bad. The fact I did so well was the people I was matched against who averaged about 4-5 kills a game which seemed almost impossible to me, getting that many as a Zombie in a round. I almost never got put with people that were “good”. So the True skill system cannot be that accurate when the only games I would ever find would be in MLG.

In Halo 4 again all I ever faced was bad people and I would usually carry my team. Games would be found in seconds and I would usually do very well with half my deaths coming from Boltshot users/last ditch suicides. I do realize my Trueskill rank was and is not incredibly high but a 32 was decent, yet I was still matched up with people that clearly did not know the difference between left trigger and right trigger.

I like the CSR and it is much better than the TrueSkill system for matching you in good games(Despite the fact I hate how the CSR works). I do enjoy playing people who are of equal or similar level to me in skill. But the CSR finds people of similar level. The people I face try incredibly hard to get their fifty. Though I do not enjoy games where I obliterate noobs, I also don’t enjoy games where teammates and players are selfish and try incredibly hard as they want to get their fifty. “every single game ive played since csr went live has been intense to the point of being infuriating”- This is almost exactly how I feel. If I want to have challenging games I will play Throwdown. Casual gaming and fun is really something I am struggling to accomplish at the moment.

If I want a fun casual game, I do not want to spend hours searching for a game in which the players are much better than me and make stupid and selfish plays to hit their 50. I have been put off Swat and Slayer recently (two of my favorite playlists) because I find it next to impossible to have fun. This is because (IMO) we do not have a social slayer playlist where you can play for fun and not worry about the CSR.

I realize what everyone has said about similar matching systems but honestly their has been a severe change. The CSR is good and I think people are defending it with good reason too. But CSR in every playlist really isn’t for every player. Especially like me who is an over average player who likes competitive but casual play also.
